Cointreau Announces the First-Ever Lime of Credit, a Fresh Twist on Funding Cinco de Mayo Celebrations

NEW YORK, N.Y.-- Cointreau, the iconic orange liqueur and essential ingredient in The Original Margarita, is shaking up Cinco de Mayo with a refreshing new twist on credit. Starting today, Margarita-lovers nationwide can apply for their very own Lime of Credit, a not-so-real credit line that offers the chance to win real money to help them invest in better Margaritas—those made the MargaRight way, with Cointreau, Tequila, and fresh lime juice!

Consumers can visit Cointreau.com/LimeofCredit to apply for their chance to win. On Friday, May 3, applicants will be notified if they’ve been approved for their Lime of Credit. Thousands of lucky Margarita lovers will win a $20 cashout via a digital payment app, just in time for happy hour and the Cinco de Mayo weekend! 

Additionally, on Thursday, May 2, New Yorkers can visit the Cointreau Credit Union, a temporary pop-up “bank” at Hudson Yards from 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM EST. Attendees will have a chance to win their Lime of Credit in the form of a pre-loaded gift card, which can be used to celebrate this Cinco de Mayo. The pop-up will also include exclusive merch giveaways, photo opportunities and more. 

“As an essential ingredient in The Original Margarita, Cointreau is always seeking new ways to highlight and celebrate its role in America’s #1 cocktail,” said Nicolas Beckers, President and CEO at Rémy Cointreau America. “We want to invite consumers to experience the brand and to feel excited to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the Cointreau Lime of Credit.”

Consumers can apply for their Lime of Credit at Cointreau.com/LimeofCredit now through Thursday, May 2 at 11:59 PM EST. Winners will be notified via email and will receive funds on Friday, May 3 at approximately 4:00 PM EST. If you are in New York City, stop by the Cointreau Credit Union located at Hudson Yards from 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM EST for even more chances to win. The Original Margarita:

  • Ingredients
    • 1 oz Cointreau
    • 2 oz blanco tequila
    • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • Directions
    • Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice
    • Shake vigorously until well-chilled and strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice
    • Rim your rocks glass with salt and garnish with a lime wheel
