On June 5, Beronia continued their culinary legacy by being the official wine sponsor of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 – Barcelona’s Disfrutar was named The World’s Best Restaurant and The Best Restaurant in Europe. The awards ceremony, hosted at Wynn Las Vegas, takes place every year and honors the very best gastronomic talent from around the world.
The Beronia World's Best Sommelier Award champions innovation, deep knowledge, customer service and outstanding communication skills within the restaurant setting; nominees are voted for by the Academy, made up of 1,080 independent restaurant industry experts. This year, the award went to Pablo Rivero, sommelier and owner of Don Julio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, known as a world-leading restaurant that encapsulates luxury and focuses on the best steaks in the country. Rivero is known for his superlative wine list and excellent service, which is why he was previously recognized as Latin America’s Best Sommelier 2022 as part of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants. Rivero is a champion of the region’s wine and his thoughtful pairings with local produce.
Beronia was founded in 1973 by a group of Basque friends who wanted the best wine to go with their culinary gettogethers. Beronia has always kept gastronomy front of mind as the winery has evolved over the years, being acquired by González Byass in 1982 and transitioning to a more sustainable and organic practice. Today, the winery continues to focus on how oak affects the wine, experimenting and creating the perfect accompaniment to all foods, from traditional Riojan dishes and beyond.
The award to Rivero was presented by Andrew Sinclair, CEO of González Byass USA. “We are so honored to be able to recognize this year’s leading sommelier at The World’s 50 Best Restaurants,” said Sinclair. “Having Beronia be the official wine partner of the top gastronomy organization allows us to see the best culinary talent and showcase our wine on a global stage.”
There were celebratory events throughout the week for The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 and Beronia wines were poured at all dinners and celebrations, served to chefs and culinary stars from the top restaurants from around the world.
