Sustainable Sicilian Boxed Wine Brand, Alileo, is Now a Certified B Corporation

Gloucester, MA, March 4, 2025 – Alileo, a Sicilian boxed wine brand, announced today that it has received B Corp™ certification from non-profit organization B Lab™ . Alileo joins an international network of organizations leading economic systems change to support a collective vision of an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. With approximately 100 wineries worldwide having B Corp certification, the milestone underscores Alileo’s ongoing commitment to meeting high standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

“From the first conversations about Alileo around our family’s dining table in 2020, we have always had our commitment to our environment, community and team at the forefront of every decision we make,” said Antonio Bertone, co-founder of Alileo. “We’re honored to be part of this small group of wine brands and more than 8,000 organizations worldwide that are B Corp certified. We look forward to continuing to grow our impact towards the greater good.”

Created by husband and wife team Antonio Bertone and Alexandra Drane, Alileo is produced in partnership with Bertone’s family in Sicily and imported to the United States. The brand was started to pay homage to their family’s Sicilian roots as well as give their family in Sicily upward economic mobility.

With a focus on sustainability and environmental friendliness, Alileo chose the bag-in-box format because it is lighter to ship than traditional glass bottles, which results in lower transport emissions and a smaller carbon footprint. Alileo also follows strict vinification guidelines that include the organic cultivating of the vineyards for grape production, manually harvesting and selecting the grapes, using spontaneous fermentation without added yeast and daily fermentation maintenance to ensure that the wine is 100% natural and unfiltered.

Alileo is available online and ships to 41 states via Alileo's website.  Alileo can also be purchased in fine wine retailers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York and Texas.

About Alileo

Alileo is a sustainable Sicilian boxed wine brand. Founded by Antonio Bertone and Alexandra Drane, Alileo is produced in partnership with Bertone’s family in Sicily and imported to the United States. Their bag-in-box organic wines are made using traditional methods with varietals from the West Coast of Sicily. Alileo was awarded three medals by the Decanter World Wine Awards 2023, the world’s leading wine competition. Alileo were awarded silver for the Syrah and bronze for the Young Grillo and Rosato Bronzato. 

About B Corp Certification

B Corp Certification assesses the overall social and environmental impact of a company. To achieve B Corp Certification, a company must meet a score of at least 80 points in the B Impact Assessment, an evaluation of a company’s positive impact, and pass a risk review, an evaluation of a company’s negative impact. 

It must change its corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders, and exhibit transparency by allowing information about their B Corp Certification performance to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website. B Corps recertify every three years and, once certified, are expected to increase their score over time as they progress towards becoming more equitable, inclusive, and regenerative businesses.
