Ireland's Boann Distillery Wins Double Gold at San Francisco World Spirits Competition
County Meath, Ireland (May 8, 2025)--Boann Distillery in County Meath, Ireland has claimed a major accolade by receiving a Double Gold medal and 99 points for its Boann Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey – Pedro Ximénez Cask at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. This distinction is awarded only to those spirits unanimously rated exceptional by the panel, reinforcing Boann’s position as one of the most innovative and quality-driven producers in the Irish whiskey category.
As part of its global expansion, Boann rolled out its Single Pot Still range across the U.S. market in January 2025. The PX whiskey is one of three Single Pot Still expressions, each showcasing a unique cask finish—Marsala, Madeira, and Pedro Ximénez—and marking a significant expansion in the distillery’s premium portfolio. The whiskeys are being distributed by Prestige Beverage Group, with availability already expanding from initial launches in Minnesota, Texas, and Nebraska to a further 13 states including New York, California, and Florida.
“This extraordinary honor places Boann’s PX whiskey among the very finest spirits in the world,” says Pat Cooney, Founder, Boann Distillery. “We are humbled and honored to receive such an accolade. This recognition reflects our passion for reviving Ireland’s rich distilling heritage and the hard work of our dedicated team here in the Boyne Valley. Our Single Pot Still whiskeys are designed to appeal to discerning consumers seeking authenticity, heritage, and innovation in equal measure.”
Boann’s Pedro Ximénez (PX) Cask release (47% ABV | SRP $69/700 ml) now joins an elite cohort of Double Gold recipients, many of whom have gone on to international prominence and market success. The whiskey was matured for 3.5 years in Oloroso Sherry hogsheads from Bodegas Garvey in Spain, then finished in rare vintage PX Solera Chestnut and Oak casks from Malaga.
Located in the Boyne Valley, Boann Distillery is a family-owned operation committed to reshaping the future of Irish spirits. In addition to its award-winning whiskeys, the distillery also produces Silks Irish Dry Gin and the Whistler whiskey portfolio, with exports now reaching 70 markets worldwide.
