Cathead Distillery, Mississippi's first and oldest legal distillery, introduces Tintype #3 'Kenny Brown,' the latest addition to its blues-inspired Tintype Series of limited-edition Old Soul Bourbons. Released alongside the 2025 editions of Tintype #1 (Captain Luke) and Tintype #2 (Hermon Hitson), the expanded lineup highlights the distillery's growing whiskey portfolio, driven by increased age, varied mash bills, and long-term barrel aging in Mississippi's heat and humidity.
"When we launched the Tintype Series in 2021, the goal was to bottle a piece of the South's musical history and honor Mississippi's blues roots," said Richard Patrick, Co-Founder of Cathead Distillery. "Each year's release lets us celebrate these artists and their stories, along with the organizations we support, from Music Maker to Hill Country Picnic."
Tintype #3: Kenny Brown
Aged 11 years | 103.5 proof | 60% Corn, 36% Rye, 4% Malted Barley
Making its debut in 2025, Tintype #3 honors Hill Country blues icon Kenny Brown, a lifelong torchbearer of North Mississippi's distinctive music tradition. This expression introduces a new mash bill (36% rye), setting it apart from Tintype #1 and #2.
Aged 11 years and bottled at cask strength (103.5 proof), uncut and unfiltered, Tintype #3 showcases the effects of Mississippi's climate on long-term maturation, resulting in a comforting bourbon layered with banana-nut-bread richness, buttery baked bread, toasted pecans, and warm baking spices.
Tintype #1: Captain Luke Mayer (2025 Edition)
Aged 7+ years | 121.8 proof | 75% Corn, 21% Rye, 4% Malted Barley
Returning for its fifth annual release, the 2025 edition of Tintype #1 honors the late blues legend Captain Luke Mayer and builds on the expression's recent recognition as a Double Platinum and Best Bourbon winner at the 2025 ASCOT Awards. Bottled at 121.8 proof, this uncut, unfiltered expression reflects the intensity of Mississippi aging and Captain Luke's enduring visual legacy through photographer Timothy Duffy, offering campfire-like notes of toasted marshmallow, charred oak, caramel popcorn sweetness, and a smoky, caramelized finish.
Tintype #2: Hermon Hitson (2025 Edition)
Aged 9+ years | 110.1 proof | 75% Corn, 21% Rye, 4% Malted Barley
Tintype #2 returns with its third annual edition, celebrating living blues legend Hermon Hitson, renowned for his electrifying performances and contributions to Southern soul and R&B. Aged more than nine years and bottled at 110.1 proof, this high-rye expression delivers pastry-like sweetness and warm spice, with notes of Fig Newtons, caramelized brown sugar, creamy vanilla, and a softly grainy, lingering finish.
The 2025 Tintype Series will be available beginning this month with nationwide online shipping via Cellar.com and Seelbach's, as well as at select retailers across AL, FL, GA, LA, MI, MS, NC, SC, TN, and TX. Each expression is a limited release of fewer than 30 barrels, with allocations varying by market.
