California Wild Ales Releases Ozzy Oz-Orange Blood Orange & Cherry Sour
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — August 25, 2026 — California Wild Ales, San Diego’s neighborhood brewery specializing in barrel-aged sour and wild beer, has announced the release of Ozzy Oz-Orange, a 6% ABV Blood Orange & Cherry Sour now pouring at the brewery’s Ocean Beach and Point Loma tasting rooms.
Inspired by the rebellious spirit of heavy metal, Ozzy Oz-Orange brings together California Wild Ales’ passion for traditional barrel-aged wild beer with locally sourced Southern California fruit.
The beer began as a mixed-fermentation wild ale aged for approximately 12 months in American oak barrels, where it developed layers of tart acidity, earthy funk, subtle vanilla, and oak. Following its extended barrel maturation, the beer was conditioned on fresh blood oranges and cherries.
Blood orange takes center stage, contributing bright citrus aromatics, ruby-red fruit character, and a tangy, slightly bitter zest. Cherries add a darker, juicy fruit component that complements the citrus while allowing the underlying barrel-aged beer to remain present.
The result is a dry, refreshing, and complex fruit sour balancing blood orange, ripe cherry, oak, and wild fermentation.
“Wild beer and heavy metal have a lot in common,” said Bill DeWitt, co-founder of California Wild Ales. “Neither one was created to quietly follow the rules. They can be loud, unconventional, and a little unpredictable, and that’s exactly what makes them interesting. We wanted Ozzy Oz-Orange to capture some of that attitude while still being a really drinkable, fruit-forward sour beer.”
The beer’s name, artwork, and personality offer a playful tribute to heavy metal culture, complete with bats, round sunglasses, crosses, and a purple monster ready to take the stage. For fans who recognize the references, there are plenty of winks throughout—right down to an invitation to get on the “crazy train” and enjoy the beer turned up to 11.
Ozzy Oz-Orange continues California Wild Ales’ focus on barrel-aged and mixed-fermentation beers made with fresh fruit. The San Diego brewery has built its identity around allowing wild fermentation, oak, and time to create beers with flavors that cannot be replicated through accelerated production methods.
Ozzy Oz-Orange Blood Orange & Cherry Sour is available for a limited time on draft at both California Wild Ales tasting rooms in Ocean Beach and Point Loma, San Diego. As with many of the brewery’s barrel-aged releases, availability is limited to the current batch.
