Quintessential Welcomes Montes and Kaiken to U.S. Portfolio
PRESS RELEASE posted by Quintessential Wines
NAPA, CALIF., October 20, 2026 — Quintessential, the family-owned wine company representing world-class, multi-generational wineries, today announced it has been named the exclusive U.S. importer, distributor and marketer for Montes of Chile and Kaiken of Argentina, adding two of the region's most recognized wineries to its portfolio. The partnership with Montes takes effect November 1, 2026, followed by Kaiken on January 1, 2027.
Founded in 1988 by Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray, Montes has played a pioneering role in elevating Chilean wine on the world stage. From introducing Montes Alpha to establishing its renowned Apalta estate in the Colchagua Valley, the winery has consistently pushed the boundaries of premium Chilean winemaking. Its internationally recognized wines include Montes Alpha M, Montes Folly, Purple Angel and Taita. Aurelio Montes Sr., recipient of the International Wine Challenge's Lifetime Achievement Award, continues his legacy alongside his son, Aurelio Montes Jr., the winery's Chief Winemaker, carrying forward two generations of winemaking expertise and innovation.
That same spirit of exploration crossed the Andes with the creation of Kaiken in Mendoza in 2002. Named for the caiquén, a wild goose that migrates between Chile and Argentina, Kaiken showcases Argentina's distinctive terroirs through vineyards in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, with Malbec at the heart of its portfolio. Its acclaimed wines include Kaiken Ultra, Boulder and the flagship Mai Malbec, reflecting the winery's commitment to producing premium Argentine wines that express the character of their origins.
Both Montes and Kaiken are Certified B Corporations, reflecting their shared commitment to social and environmental responsibility through initiatives including renewable energy, water conservation, regenerative farming and biodiversity protection.
“Montes and Kaiken are exactly the kind of partners we look for at Quintessential,” said Dennis Kreps, co-owner of Quintessential. “They have extraordinary wines, a pioneering spirit and a long-term vision for their wineries and vineyards. We’re excited to bring the strength of our organization behind these brands and build on their success in the U.S.”
“The United States has always been an important market for our wines, and choosing the right partner is essential to our continued growth,” said Aurelio Montes Sr. “In Quintessential, we see a team that understands our ambitions for both Montes and Kaiken and shares our belief in building lasting relationships.”
The addition of Montes and Kaiken significantly strengthens Quintessential's position in South America. They join Pascual Toso and Bodegas Bianchi in Argentina and Seña, Vinedo Chadwick and Matetic Vineyards in Chile, creating an exceptional collection of producers and establishing Quintessential as a go-to source for the region's wines in the U.S.
