With its dark red-colored liquid, the Love Greens variety of Mamma Chia’s USDA Organic certified Chia & Greens line is certainly the most unique looking of the bunch. It’s also the most unique tasting, with the unmistakable flavor of beet juice hitting your palate relatively quickly. It masks most of the added greens, which include barley grass, kale, wheatgrass, spinach, and spirulina, but you can still taste them ever so slightly at the tail end. There’s also a slight note of ginger, and we could definitely use a bit more. And, of course, there’s the chia, which, like every product Mamma Chia makes, is an integral part of the product. It adds nutrients (most notably fiber, protein, and omegas) and some chew to the product. Plus, it seems to keep the sweetness at bay, although this product only has 14g of sugars per bottle (no sugar added -- just from the beets and added apple juice). What we really like about this product is that it’s balanced and flavorful like the other varieties, but it also has an extra layer of flavor from the beets. That being said, this is probably the flavor that we’d see ourselves coming back to the most. On the outside, the 10 oz. bottle is the same shape as Mamma Chia's flagship line. The key difference, aside from the darker color of the liquid, is the use of a clear label. The company has added colored bars at the top and bottom of the label to call out the important ingredients, while the center of the panel has remained clean and relatively similar to the flagship. To that end, it’s very obvious that this product is part of the Mamma Chia family -- and it has just enough to stand out and have its own identity as a sub line. Overall, we really like this product as well as Mamma Chia’s move into green juice drinks.
