BevNET Live: Avoid the Legal Pitfalls for HPP with Attorney Justin Prochnow
November 8, 2013 by Jeffrey Klineman
BevNET Live will feature a look at two of the most important legal and regulatory issues facing the entrepreneurial beverage industry with administrative law expert Justin Prochnow.
Prochnow, who has handled civil litigation and regulatory filings for some of the most cutting-edge food and beverage companies in the country, will provide guidelines for claims by entrepreneurs who are working with or are considering enterprises in high pressure processing (HPP) and other novel techniques that can affect food quality, safety, and marketability.
The freshness and nutritional integrity of brands deploying HPP has been widely credited with providing the launch platform for an increasing number of beverage brands, but has also already given rise to at least one civil lawsuit based on labeling claims. Prochnow’s advice concerning the current thinking concerning potential regulatory and legal pitfalls can provide an important step for companies to understand where they can and cannot go when deploying it as part of their manufacturing process.
Additionally, Prochnow’s talk will look at the overall state of civil litigation with regard to food and beverage companies, outlining some of the hot spots that have led to an upsurge of claims and what companies are doing to head them off. While no legal advice can keep companies out of the courtroom, Prochnow will offer insights concerning best practices for avoiding some of the most common claims that are currently bedeviling entrepreneurs.
Prochnow will also speak on beverage claims to new entrepreneurs on Dec. 8, at BevNET’s Beverage School event, before his talk at BevNET Live, which takes place on Dec. 9 and 10.
