NEW YORK, New York-December 3, 2004 – Utmost Brands, Inc., dba GuS – Grown-up Soda, the line of less-sweet beverages, announced today that it has finalized new deals with two major distributors and numerous gourmet grocery chains. Nature’s Best, Inc. (West Coast and Rockies) and Bradley Distributing, Inc. (Minneapolis) have begun selling the all-natural GuS – Grown-up Soda line, bringing the total number of states with distribution to 32.
GuS adds New York’s leading gourmet chain The Food Emporium; Minneapolis’ Byerly’s and Lund’s; and the Mid-Atlantic Division of Whole Foods to its list of gourmet and health food outlets. These retailers join Whole Foods North-Atlantic Division, HEB/Central Market, Sutton Place/Balducci’s, Zabar’s, Oakville Grocery and hundreds of other specialty retailers and eateries carrying the GuS line.
Launched in Summer 2003, GuS was what the husband-and-wife founders were looking for in a beverage; something not so sweet like all the sodas out there, but not dull and lifeless like flavored waters and seltzers. Taking inspiration from his father, who added seltzer to everything, co-founder Steve Hersh crafted a line of 100% natural sodas made with real juice and real extracts in distinctively dry flavors. They’re lightly sweetened with cane sugar, pasteurized, kosher and caffeine-free.
Recently featured on The Food Network’s “What’s Hot. What’s Cool.” show and CNN NewsNight’s “On the Rise” segment, GuS has rung a chord with a new group of consumers – adults and kids alike – who are looking for beverages that are less sweet and void of artificial sweeteners and ingredients. With only 90 to 95 calories per 12oz., GuS has significantly less calories than typical sodas and juice drinks.
“We feel that GuS Sodas answer an untapped consumer need, and our strong market acceptance is a testament to this,” said Steve Hersh. “People tell us, ‘Finally, a soda that’s not too sweet!”
GuS Sodas are available in 12 ounce bottles and 4-packs in five distinctive flavors: Dry Meyer Lemon, Star Ruby Grapefruit, Dry Valencia Orange, Dry Crimson Grape and Extra Dry Ginger Ale. A sixth flavor will be launched at the Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco, CA this January, 2005.
