Manufacturer's Brand Overview [Edit]

Sherman F. Avery began making soda in the red barn on Corbin Avenue in the summer of 1904. Avery's quickly became known for its variety of flavors, especially the Cream, Birch Beer, Root Beer and Ginger Ale. Using a horse pulled wagon, Mr. Avery delivered soda to the homes and stores in and around New Britain, Connecticut, and it wasn't until 1914 that he purchased his first delivery truck. This 100-year tradition of old-fashioned customer service continues today and home delivery is still a significant part of our business. Avery's commitment to a quality product has earned a loyal following in Central Connecticut, which endures to this day. Our sodas are still handcrafted using methods and recipes from generations ago including real cane sugar, the finest quality ingredients and naturally pure well water. Each flavor is carefully made in small batches and is packaged only in glass bottles to preserve the wonderful old-fashioned flavor. Avery's is one of the oldest soda bottling companies in New England and all of our soda is still made in the same red barn on Corbin Avenue. Avery's continues to be a family run business that strives to provide the highest quality products and outstanding customer service.

Birch Beer

BevNET Review: Avery's Birch Beer is an old-fashioned gem of a beverage. For those unfamiliar with Birch Beer in general, it is a traditional flavor made from herb extracts, traditionally of birch tree bark. Avery's uses oil of birch to achieve it flavor, which resembles a cross between wintergreen and root beer. The bottles white label and clear glass work perfectly with the Birch Beer's clear color. Black Cherry

BevNET Review: While we definitely appreciate the packaging that Avery's Black Cherry Soda uses, the formulation on the inside could use some fine tuning. Specifically, the black cherry flavor is a bit off and is too light on the cherry flavor. Instead, the product has a very sweet flavor profile that tastes too strong. Adding more to the black cherry flavor would most definitely fix this. In any event, we definitely appreciate the simplicity and clean appearance of the package and would still likely consume this product. Overall, a good product that could be great with some slight tweaking.Reviewed on: 10/12/2004

Cream Soda

BevNET Review: Avery's Cream Soda is anything but your average cream soda. Starting with its red color, this beverage has a distinct cream flavor that is truly one of a kind. It's hard to articulate the full extent of the differences between Avery's and a traditional cream soda, but we'll try. Aside from the aesthetic differences in color, this version has a slightly lighter body and is sweetened with cane sugar and has a stronger sweetness to the finish. BevNET Review: Avery's Orange Soda is a lightly sweet, old-fashioned style beverage that offers the full package -- an attractive bottle and a great tasting flavor. The level of sweetness in this beverage is mild and it tastes noticeably lighter than most other orange sodas on the market today. BevNET Review: Avery's Beverages has done a great job with its root beer. With a package that is about the as perfect as nostalgic style beverages come and a formula that is smooth and refreshing, this beverage has succeeded in all of our tests. Avery's Root Beer has an almost homemade feeling to it that makes it different than most beverages that we sample today. Strawberry

BevNET Review: Avery's Strawberry has a very sweet, fruity taste. The carbonation level is pleasantly light. The flavor, although enjoyable, doesn't resemble strawberry very closely.
