Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz (473 ml) can
BevNET Review: Caballo Negro's "Double Kick Zero" is the 16-ounce version of its sugar free formulation. As far as diet energy drinks go, this product is well done, especially considering its minimal aftertaste. It's not the best diet energy flavor that we've ever had, but its citrus and berry flavor is drinkable and moderately refreshing. The packaging, on the other hand, is a bit more unique. The Mexican themed design has an authentic ethnic feeling. However, the text laden label could be cleaned up and we think a "less is more" approach would help this drink stand out more. In addition, the can looks very similar to Caballo Negro's regular variety and we would recommend doing something to make them stand apart a bit more.Reviewed on: 10/2/2006

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz (473 ml) can
BevNET Review: With a tweaked formula and a larger, refined can, Caballo Negro's 16-ounce entry is a significant improvement over the original. Nicknamed "Double Kick", this product has a sweet citrus-style flavor that is lightly carbonated. There's only a mild hint of aftertaste, making it above average for the category. The larger can alleviates some of the readability issues that we had with the 8-ounce version and it also makes the Mexican red, white, and green branding more obvious. Combine that with the bilingual packaging (also found on the 8-ounce) and you've got a very versatile entry that should have immediate success with Hispanic consumer. Overall, Caballo Negro Double Kick is a much improved product that is definitely worth a try, especially if Hispanic consumers are part of your clientele.Reviewed on: 3/31/2006

+ Show Product ReviewCaballo Negro Energy Drink

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 8.4 oz can
BevNET Review: Caballo Negro (Black Horse) is a new energy drink from Distribuidores De La Energia, Inc. This product was specifically designed to appeal to Mexican-Americans, a segment of the US population that is steadily increasing. The label features the colors of the Mexican flag and is fully bilingual (Spanish/English), but it is diffult to read because the black text uses a thin font and the text runs over red, green, white, and silver colors. Caballo Negro's flavor is fruity, but a mild afteraste is left behind from the active ingredients in this product. Overall, Caballo Negro is a good first effort that's biggest selling point is its unique target demographic, but it still needs help in packaging and flavor if it is going to have widespread success.Reviewed on: 12/22/2004
