Zero Calorie Passion Fruit Green Tea

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Honest Tea’s Zero Calorie Passion Fruit Green Tea is a stevia-sweetened USDA Organic blend of green tea, hibiscus, passion fruit juice and other ingredients. From a flavor perspective, the drink delivers rather complex flavor, which is clearly needed to help mask the stevia. Each one of the ingredients can be distinguished from the blend, with the hibiscus doing a nice job of masking the stevia. There is a stevia finish to the drink, but it’s much lighter than what we’ve seen in most other stevia sweetened drinks. Packaging is a 16 oz. glass bottle, which looks very much like Honest’s other products. While the text says “HONEST ZERO,” we think it would be pretty easy to miss that this is a zero calorie sweetened product without some other visual indicator. Hopefully they’ll address this in the future. Overall, a solid entry from Honest Tea, which has done a nice job of proving that stevia can be used in drinks that actually taste good.Reviewed on: 4/2/2012

Raspberry Fields

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Honest Tea’s Raspberry Fields is a straightforward tasting beverage that is made with black tea, cane sugar, and raspberry (in the form of juice, leaves, and flavoring). Essentially it’s a twist on the classic raspberry flavored tea, with the twist being a slightly earthy note that is perhaps from the added raspberry leaves. At only 70 calories per 16 ounce bottle, this product delivers plenty of flavor without coating your mouth with sugar. Visually, it’s true to form for Honest Tea, with a wholesome looking label that also features the Whole Foods “Whole Trade” logo (this variety is, at least initially, a Whole Foods exclusive). Overall, it might seem like an obvious flavor for Honest Tea to already have, but it’s a good one that has solid execution.Reviewed on: 4/11/2012

Heavenly Lemon Tulsi

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Tulsi tea, which is also known as “Holy Basil,” is an herbal tea that represents a new caffeine-free offering for the Honest Tea lineup. Like many of Honest’s other flavors, this variety is “just a tad sweet” and is also certified USDA Organic. The flavor of this product is extremely easy to like, with a mellow blend of rooibos, lemongrass, tulsi, lemon peel, and lemon myrtle making up the herbal blend used to flavor the drink. They’ve also added a touch of lemon juice and lemon extract to the mix. The flavor that results has a light note of rooibos, some floral notes to it, and a very unique citrus undertone that is present from start to finish. Fortunately, the lemon flavor isn’t very strong, so it doesn’t overpower the rest of flavors in the drink. The use of cane sugar gives the product a very mild level of sweetness, with it complementing rather than competing with the other flavors in the drink. All in all, we really like the flavor that they’ve created with this product and we bet that mainstream consumers will prefer it to straight rooibos or other caffeine free offerings. On the outside, this product looks just like the rest of the Honest Tea line, almost to a fault. That’s because at this point, spotting a new flavor in the Honest Tea line is somewhat difficult with only text and the backdrop on the “T” used to differentiate each flavor. So, unless consumers look very closely or are intimately familiar with all the Honest Tea “T” designs, it’s somewhat easy to miss. And that would be a real shame – this is truly a standout formulation. Reviewed on: 10/18/2010

Jasmine Green Tea Energy

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 oz glass
BevNET Review: Honest Tea’s latest flavor is Jasmine Green Energy Tea. Contrary to what you might think from reading the name, this isn’t an energy enhanced tea. Instead, it’s a call-out to Honest Tea’s efforts to “go green.” In this case, they’ve purchased renewable energy credits (from CleanCurrents.com) to help offset the carbon dioxide that’s produced as part of this product. An image of a wind turbine as the backdrop of the “T” logo also helps put this into context. Inside the bottle, you’ll find a very nice blend of organic green and white teas with jasmine, which have been sweetened with just a slight dose of agave. It’s a mild-bodied product, but there are notes of flavor that are slightly grassy and tannic. That’s okay, especially since the splash of agave adds some sweetness to the mix, which helps balance things out. And at only 34 calories per bottle, the product will satisfy the tea drinker and calorie conscious consumer alike. However, it’s probably not going to be a mainstream hit, which is likely why it has landed in the glass lineup and not PET. Overall, a very technically sound product that scores high on both the flavor and virtue charts.Reviewed on: 6/12/2009

Agave Mate

Product Type:Tea: Alternative; Container: 16 oz glass
BevNET Review: The Agave Mate variety is one of the most lightly sweetened flavors that we’ve seen from Honest Tea in a while. Using organic agave for both the drink’s sweetener and for a touch of flavor, it pairs quite nicely with the very light mate base that’s used in this product. On that front, if you are looking for a strong mate flavor, you won’t find it here. This flavor has clearly been formulated to fit within the same style of other Honest Tea flavors – and the simplicity of the formulation delivers. Packaging is clean and minimalist, with a blue agave backdrop on the trademark “T” logo and prime placement of the USDA Organic logo. Overall, a technically strong entry from Honest Tea.Reviewed on: 3/18/2009

Tropical Mate

Product Type:Tea: Alternative; Container: 16 oz glass
BevNET Review: If mate itself isn’t considered tropical, the addition of mango, orange, and lemon flavors will certainly push it over the edge. It’s an easy to drink beverage that has achieved a nice balance of fruit and “tea” flavors, with a mild amount of organic cane juice providing a slight amount of sweetness. But again, the mate flavor is not as strong as competing drinks that are out there, which we think will let Honest reach a drinker that’s a bit closer to the mainstream. On the packaging side, the fruit backdrop is our favorite of the three flavors, helping to whet the appetite and also act as something familiar in what might be a new flavor for many consumers. Definitely worth a try.Reviewed on: 3/18/2009

Sublime Mate

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 oz glass
BevNET Review: Honest's first mate drink is a good one, complete with natural mate flavor and a dash of sweetness. They've also added a splash of lime and ginger, which helps to diffuse the natural earthiness that mate is known for. This flavor works really well -- it's one of the best mate drinks we've seen in a while. Packaging is Honest's trademark 16 oz. glass bottle, which has a very minimalist looking design to it. Overall, a great addition to the lineup.Reviewed on: 7/2/2007

Pomegranate Red Tea With Goji Berry

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 oz glass
BevNET Review: Honest might want to come up with a simpler name for this product, but we otherwise wouldn't change anything. Made with organic rooibos (aka red tea), they've also blended in pomegranate and goji berry, two ingredients that are touted for having high levels of antioxidants. Nutrition aside, Honest has done a really nice job of using the fruit flavors to round out the natural nutty flavor of the rooibos tea. The dress on the trademark "T" is appetizing and appealing, but the rest of the label feels a tad cluttered. This is due, in part, to the many different messages that Honest is trying to pack on the front panel: a tad sweet, caffeine free, USDA organic, fair trade, OU Kosher. Some organization might be helpful. Still, it's the flavor that will keep us coming back to this product -- and Honest has certainly succeeded in that department.Reviewed on: 7/2/2007

Pearfect White Tea

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review: Pearfect White Tea is one of Honest's first white tea offerings, and it does a good job of blending pear and white tea flavors so that it's hard to distinguish which is which: the pear flavor is very light, and that goes well with the ultra-delicate flavor of white tea. It's a tough balance to achieve, because too much pear would overpower the tea flavor, and they pull it off. Overall, this product is well-done, and it offers the most mainstream taste of Honest's white teas to date. Reviewed on: 12/27/2006

Peach Oo-La-Long

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 fl oz glass
BevNET Review: Peach Oo-La-Long is definitely one of the finer brews of Honest Tea to hit the market. Featuring a slightly sweetened brew of organic oolong and black teas mixed with a splash of peach puree, this product is extremely soothing and refreshing at the same time. The brew of tea is very easy on the palatte and there's just enough sweetness to keep you coming back for more. Also, the label of this product features artwork from the cartoon strip "Bloom County" (the artist is an investor in the company). Overall, a fine brew from Honest Tea. We definitely enjoy their new teas that are "a tad sweet."Reviewed on: 12/27/2006

Mango White Tea

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review: Honest Tea’s first glass entrant into the white tea sweepstakes is a winner, albeit not a runaway one. Its strong mango scent isn’t matched by strong mango flavor, and the tea flavor, although apparent in the finish, is at first overtaken a bit too much by the sweet combination of sugar and agave syrup. But it’s a highly drinkable beverage overall, with not just the stylish tea of the moment but also the au courant antioxidant açaí, a “superfruit” from the Brazilian rainforest. So you can live longer to drink more of it.Reviewed on: 12/27/2006

Lori's Lemon Tea

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 fl oz glass
BevNET Review: If you've ever wondered what the perfect glass of iced tea would taste like, then we encourage you to try Lori's Lemon Tea. It's a perfectly brewed concoction made with organic black tea, organic lemon, and a drop of organic cane sugar to complete the mix. The resulting beverage has a beautiful flavor to it -- the smooth black tea is well complemented with the light lemon flavor and the dash of sugar hits your tongue right at the end to create a very subtle sweetness to the flavor. Absolutely perfect. Honest Tea has truly created a tea that we could consume cases of. As a result, we think this is definitely their most mainstream flavor to date. Reviewed on: 12/27/2006

Just Green Tea

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 fl oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review: Great tasting, but it needs some more pizzazz. This is without a doubt one of the best-tasting pure green teas we’ve ever tasted, with zero grassiness, unbelievably character, a tiny bit of spice but mostly a clean green tea flavor. Plus, it's the first organic, fair trade ready to drink unsweetened tea, which will probably mean something to the type of consumers that drink unsweetened green tea. Unfortunately, the label is bland to the point of being generic, and the tea itself is cloudy, which can be a turn-off for some consumers. Still, the flavor would absolutely keep us coming back. Spruce up the label and this product definitely has potential.Reviewed on: 12/27/2006

Just Black Tea

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 fl oz glass (473 ml)
BevNET Review: The folks at Honest Tea are hopping on the unsweetened train with this smooth organic black tea in a 16-oz. glass bottle. The tea tastes just fine, with almost no astringency and very little of the brackishness that unsweetened bottled teas occasionally carry. There aren’t any nasty particles at the bottom, it’s quenching, calorie free, and even has some caffeine. But the packaging is so minimalist as to look generic. Just a tiny photo of hands in a barrel of tea leaves on a faded light blue label. Jazz it up, guys. There’s not a lot of sell here. Technically good, but doesn't excite us. Reviewed on: 12/27/2006

Green Dragon Tea

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 16 fl oz glass
BevNET Review: Green Dragon Tea is a refreshing green tea that has a nice lemon zest flavor to it. It's definitely one of the lighter tasting Honest Tea flavors. However, it's also part of the "a tad sweet" line of flavors, which means that is has a very light amount of sugar in it. Overall, it's a very clean tea that is guaranteed to quench your thirst. Also, Honest Tea is promoting the fact that this product has Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG), which is the most powerful antioxidant in green tea (this antioxidant has been linked in some studies to helping prevent cancer). Anyway, this is some really good tea. Give it a try.Reviewed on: 12/27/2006
