BevNET Review: While the label makes multiple references to the fact that this is an energy drink, the words “decaf” and “caffeine free” will likely send mixed messages to consumers who are used to getting a caffeine jolt from their energy drink. The energy blend uses L-carnitine, D-ribose, choline, L-arginine, and B vitamins, which will certainly perform differently than a caffeine laden drink. From a flavor point of view, the non-carbonated mixture is sweetened with sugar and sucralose, which makes for a relatively drinkable flavor. The fruit flavor tastes somewhat like peach, but has a heavy amount of bite. For us, this makes the drink something that we would not consume for flavor alone. Packaging is a 15.5 oz. plastic bottle that, despite standing out from other energy drinks, looks like something that’s in between a CSD and a value fruit juice drink. It definitely does not say “energy” to us. Ultimately, we’re not so sure that a decaf energy drink is something that’s going to be a big seller, especially the way this drink stands right now.

BevNET Review: As far as Hydrive’s lineup goes, Extra Strength Black Cherry is definitely one of the more enjoyable -- and better positioned -- products. Let's start with the pleasant black cherry flavor that is sweetened with sugar and sucralose. The combination of the tart fruit flavor and the sugar / sucralose blend makes for something that hides most of the sweetener aftertaste while still providing a moderate amount of sweetness. Functionally, extra caffeine is something that has proven to sell – and 195mg of caffeine per 15.5 oz. bottle is definitely up there with the category leaders. Plus, the black, red, yellow, and white label looks aggressive but is clean and readable. Overall, this is definitely one of our favorites of the lineup.
