BevNET Review: Joia’s Ginger Apricot & Allspice is a nice approach to creating a soda that has a sophisticated flavor but is still very approachable. The flavor of the drink is primarily ginger ale (rather than spicy ginger), with a pleasant splash of apricot providing a secondary note of flavor to help round things out. Finally, there’s the allspice, which gives the product a slightly lingering spice note. All in all these flavors work extremely well together and also do a great job of masking the sweeteners (erythritol, stevia, and monk fruit along with sugar) used in the drink. And with only 60 calories and 15g of sugar per bottle, this product definitely delivers a ton of flavor relative to comparable products. Visually, we like the homespun look of the label, which definitely helps set the tone for the product’s unique but high quality flavor profile. However, the white lettering on a clear label is a bit hard to read from afar. Figuring out a way to improve this would certainly help in situations where the bottles are being sold as singles (they have a four pack which also resolves this problem). BevNET Review: Unlike some of the other flavors of Joia that we’ve sampled, this is about as close to a standard soft drink flavor as there is for this brand. Building off a classic orange soda, this product has only subtle notes of jasmine and nutmeg. For the brand, we think that having at least one flavor that’s more traditional in style (as this one is) is a good thing and makes this flavor a great starting point for the curious buyer. In addition, the brand’s use of low calorie sweeteners (erythritol, stevia, and monk fruit) alongside is executed very nicely. The product’s modest calorie count (60 per bottle) and flavor, which has no sweetener taste, is probably one of the best tasting products to ever use a similar sweetener blend. Last, there’s the packaging, which, with a 12 oz. clear glass bottle and a clear label, has an upscale but artisanal vibe. As mentioned in the other reviews, our only concern is the clear label, which makes the text somewhat hard to read. Still, this is a very enjoyable product with execution that’s top notch.Reviewed on: 9/11/2012
