5-Hour Energy Battles Counterfeit Operations

A few days after The New York Times revealed that 5-Hour Energy had been mentioned in U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports linking consumption of its energy shots to 13 deaths, Living Essentials, which markets and distributes 5-Hour, announced that it was dealing with another potential loss of revenue and brand reputation: counterfeiting.

Consumer Perception of Energy Drinks Plummets

Amid the recent wave of negative publicity surrounding energy drinks, and the ire of some elected leaders calling for greater oversight and regulation of the category, consumer perception of the top energy drink brands has fallen to its lowest level since 2009, according to consumer research firm YouGov.

As part of a major expansion in its sales and marketing initiatives, Living Essentials, the marketer of 5-Hour Energy, has introduced a new pink lemonade flavor for the energy shot in an attempt to broaden its consumer base and appeal to a range of demographics, particularly women. Living Essentials is launching the new flavor in in partnership with the Avon Foundation for Women and has committed a donation of five cents per bottle of Pink Lemonade 5-Hour Energy to the organization.
