Amy & Brian Coconut Water: Coconut Water with Cinnamon

While the concept of mixing cinnamon with coconut water isn’t new, this is the first entry that we’ve seen in shelf-stable form (Harmless Harvest being the first -- albeit a perishable -- option). Having only two ingredients (coconut water and cinnamon), the product has a very clean flavor. The flavor of the product is, first and foremost, that of a coconut water. The cinnamon, on the other hand, hits your palate more on the back end. The result is something that’s smooth and balanced, rather than spicy. Given the company's use of a red/orange can, we were honestly expecting something with a bit more cinnamon flavor than it currently has. However, the flavor does seem like something that should have mainstream appeal. Visually, the tall ribbed can has a lot going on. We find it pretty hard to read the words “coconut water” that run vertically along the front of the can (the font looks too narrow). Furthermore, there’s a disconnect between the various elements that the company has slapped on the can to the point where you have to look in multiple places and rotate the can to read it all. Tightening up the copy seems like a no-brainer in our opinion. Beyond that, we still feel as though the Amy & Brian brand could be developed further. Aside from stating that the company is “family owned and operated,” the story of the brand and design of the product has a somewhat sterile and commodity feeling to it. That’s something that might not be an issue for the brand right now, but we do see it as a limiting factor for the product at some point. Regardless, this is a nice addition to the lineup.
