Review: Coconut Water with Grape

The latest flavor from Amy & Brian Coconut Water is this one, Grape. The concept is, at least on the surface, straightforward. The product blends coconut water, grape juice concentrate and natural flavor into the same 17.5 oz. steel can that the company uses for its other flavors. Amy & Brian has chosen a purple accent color for the packaging, which is certainly synonymous with grapes. However, what’s inside the can, which is clear liquid, is presumably just white grape juice. In terms of taste, this doesn’t seem like the worst thing in the world considering that white grape definitely has a lighter flavor profile. The resulting blend is good, but tastes a bit too much like something that’s using grape as a sweetener rather than a flavor. That said, in its current form, we’d rather consume the company's flagship flavor than this one. Furthermore, it’s hard to say what adjustment could be made to improve it; more grape juice or red grape juice? To build on what we said earlier about the packaging, the purple color is certainly different than what you’ll typically see from coconut water products. However, we wonder if consumers who aren’t familiar with the Amy & Brian's brand will recognize it as coconut water. We say this, at least to some extent, because the coconut images and large vertical “COCONUT WATER” don’t catch the eye the way that they have been placed on the can. Overall, we like the concept of this product, but the execution seems a bit off compared to some of the brand's other flavors.
