Kahawa 1893 is a mission-driven coffee brand founded by Margaret Nyamumbo, a third-generation coffee farmer from Kenya. Growing up, she saw firsthand that women perform up to 90% of the labor in East Africa’s coffee industry, where some of the world’s most prized coffee is grown, yet often receive little of the financial benefit. She created Kahawa 1893 to share exceptional African coffee with the world while giving back to the women who make the coffee trade possible.
