MatchaBar’s Original variety is a low-calorie product that seems like it has its eyes on the mainstream tea drinker. The formulation is a blend of water, honey, ceremonial grade matcha tea, natural flavor, lactic acid, and sodium copper. It’s smooth and balanced and, unlike pure matcha tea, doesn’t really have a heavy grassy flavor to it. The note of honey that hits your palate at the finish is definitely a nice addition. It helps round out the flavor, while also adding some depth to it. At 35 calories and 8g of sugar per bottle, this is definitely a nice low-calorie tea option. Plus, it has 80mg of caffeine, which is a marketable benefit (more so than L-theanine and antioxidants). On the exterior, we like the look of the 10 oz. glass bottle that the product is packaged in. The labels are visually clean and attractive, with easy to read text and a different colored background for each flavor. In the case of this product, which is the only unflavored option, the company has gone with a green background. It's chosen a green that’s brighter than the liquid, which helps create a nice visual appearance. Otherwise, the label layout is uncluttered on both the front and the back. All in all, a very well-executed product.
