Nu Smoothie: Orange Mango Passionfruit

Nu Smoothie's Orange Mango Passion is a 100 percent blend of purées and juices, including orange, mango, apple, banana and passion fruit. The product, which is made in France, has an extremely sweet taste, to the point where the sugary flavor lingers and coats your mouth afterward. While it's certainly a straightforward product (you can taste all of the fruit ingredients), we really don't know what this product adds to the market that can't already be found in other established brands (aside from perhaps a Tetra Pak container that's shelf stable). To that end, calling it "Nu" seems somewhat like the opposite of reality, especially when it is only available in two SKUs (as it is in the U.S.A. at the time of publication). Visually, the product has a clean and appealing design on its 250 mL package, but again, it's the name that's confusing as it sounds like something that is calling out a functional benefit. Overall, we're left feeling as though Nu is chasing a juice/nectar market that existed a decade ago -- it just doesn't seem on trend today.
