Speed Zone seems to be marketed towards the NASCAR and racing fan contingency. The silver can is flashy, stating “Made in the USA” with blue and red trim on the top and bottom of the container respectively. A blue crest with checkered flags and yellow caution sign dominate the center of the can with silver and red text that catches the eye. Like the vast majority of energy drinks, Speed Zone contains the staples of taurine, caffeine, and vitamin B12. The color is the typical generic energy drink (amber) and the flavor borders on “me too” – lightly carbonated, somewhat sweet, apple-y with a touch of bubblegum flavor. However, there is little to no medicinal flavor and aftertaste which we like. Overall, while not a bad entry, we have to question its commercial viability as it doesn’t really offer the consumer anything different from the masses aside from the looks of the can. Tweaking of the flavoring and coloring is needed to make it more unique, which would perhaps help score a victory with the “energy on the go” consumer.
