Tongo Coconut Water: Tahitian Lime

Tongo’s Tahitian Lime is the lightest tasting flavor of the lineup. Lime and coconut seems like a natural combo, with the tart citrus lime flavoring going nicely with the slightly nutty coconut water. They’ve sweetened the drink with agave, which, aside from helping the product’s glycemic index, makes for a cleaner and more mellow level of sweetness. All in all, the flavor is definitely something that should have mainstream appeal. Tongo’s choice of bottle is a 16 oz. fully wrapped PET bottle, which fits with the type of product that they’ve created. Visually, the white and black design is cleanly executed, but it doesn’t pop the way that some of the brighter colored coconut water packages do. In addition, we think that this product should call itself something other than just “coconut water,” which makes it automatically compete with the not from concentrate brands. Being a little more direct about the niche that the product is seeking to fill would definitely help. Overall, we really like the flavor and what is inside the bottle, but we’d like to see Tongo evolve the way that it communicates to the consumer.
