The curtain may have closed on the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, but ZICO’s partnership with the international games is just getting started. Coca-Cola Finishes Purchase of Majority ZICO Stake

Ending months of waiting, the Coca-Cola Co. has finally purchased a majority stake in Zico Coconut water, consummating a deal that has lingered in the final stages since the early Fall. Independent shareholders of the brand began to receive checks for their stakes in the company earlier this week. Coke’s initial stake in the company, acquired in 2009, was part of a combined $15 million stake that also included a group of entrepreneurs, distributors, celebrities, and others.

ZICO Announces New Team of Athlete Endorsers

Looking to strengthen its position as a natural alternative to traditional sports drinks, ZICO has unveiled a new team of athlete endorsers. And while Team ZICO appears to be the big-name part of the company’s marketing initiatives for 2012, the company says it ZICO has more in store. Marketing VP Bill Lange told BevNET that the company will pump up its marketing spend by 75 percent over 2011 and is close to signing a “major celebrity” as an endorser.

Expo West 2012 Booth Check-In: Zico

With a close eye on consumer feedback, Zico showcased a couple of new products from its crowded booth at Natural Products Expo West. As reported by BevNET last week, Zico launched Zico Latte, a new coconut water and coffee blend as well as two new Tetra-Pak sizes for its popular Chocolate flavor, which had previously been available only in PET bottles.

Expo West Intro: ZICO Latte, New Sizes

Zico will be introducing its first caffeinated product when it unveils Zico Latte at the Natural Products Expo West show later this week. The product, a blend of coconut water from concentrate, sugart, coconut cream, coffee and vanilla, weighs in at 120 calories and has 85 mg of caffeine. The product is expected to officially launch in June.
