Started in 1992 by expert flavor tester David Dafoe, Flavorman has grown from a small consulting firm to a worldwide, full-service custom product development and ingredient supply company. His team of 30 beverage architects works with many of the nation’s largest beverage makers in a state-of-the-art facility in downtown Louisville engineering flavor formulas and testing new product lines. In contrast to “flavor houses” that manufacture ready-made “stock” formulations, Flavorman works one-on-one with each client to mix dynamic beverages that are one-of-a-kind and under sole ownership of the client.
“We’ve formulated everything from taco-flavored soda to devil’s food cake vodka in the past 22 years, not to mention beverages for dogs, cats, horses and hummingbirds,” said Dafoe. “It’s our job to lend expertise to help clients be trendsetters in the industry. It’s not what’s now – it’s what’s next.”
Marking the company’s 20-year anniversary in 2012, Dafoe’s innovative and entrepreneurial spirit struck again with the launch of Distilled Spirits Epicenter. Comprised of Grease Monkey Distillery, Moonshine University and Challenge Bottling, the Epicenter makes it possible for anyone to create and explore the possibilities in artisanal spirits through professional and enthusiast learning. Distilled Spirits Epicenter is the exclusive education provider of the Kentucky Distillers Association.
