Expo East 2018: New Products Preview

Along with its West Coast counterpart, the annual Natural Products Expo East show provides one of the beverage industry’s most prominent stages for introducing new brands, line extensions and innovations. Vive Organic (#8106) In addition to showcasing refreshed packaging and brand imagery, cold-pressed juice shot maker Vive Organic is set to debut two new SKUs in its Immunity Boost line: the spicy Boost with Cayenne and the sweeter Boost with Elderberry, the former of which will be a Whole Foods global exclusive launching in October.

San Diego-based cold brew coffee maker Bold Brew will be featuring its new three-SKU line of nitrogen-infused cold brew lattes made with coconut milk. Available in Original, Mocha, and Vanilla flavors, each SKU is packaged in 8 oz. slim cans and is sugar-free.

Having established the brand’s identity around lightly carbonated organic teas, Sound Sparkling Tea is now set to expand into unsweetened tea-infused sparkling waters in 12 oz. slim cans. In addition to Blueberry + Cinnamon & Hibiscus and Blood Orange + Vanilla & Black Tea, the line will be available in Tangerine + Lemongrass & Green Tea and Grapefruit + Lavender & Ginger Tea flavors.

Taking functional beverages in a new direction, seaweed snack maker Ocean’s Halo will showcase a new line of fruit-flavored “superfood” drinks that infuse electrolyte-rich deep ocean water with antioxidants and nutrients from kelp. The line will be available in four flavors: Honey Ginger, Kiwi Aloe, Watermelon Lime and Hibiscus Cinnamon.

Former New Beverage Showdown contestants Sunniva Super Coffee will feature its new brand identity — called Kitu Life — at Expo East. Along with the new name and design, the company has reformulated its line of protein and MCT oil-infused “super coffees” to remove stevia. It will also be showcasing a new three-SKU line of “super creamers” that will debut in Wegmans and Fresh Thyme stores this month for a SRP of $5.49.

Since pivoting from traditional to plant-based dairy, Elmhurst has moved purposefully to solidify its position as a specialist in alternative milks, which continues with the release of a new line of coffee-centric products. The brand’s Milked Oats, Milked Almonds and Milked Brown Rice will launch in Barista Editions this fall in 32 oz. cartons with an SRP of $5.99. Elmhurst is also planning to showcase new Peanut Protein Shakes, available in Chocolate Peanut, Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Banana and Cafe Mocha flavors, with each containing 20g of plant-based protein. The line will be available in 12 oz. resealable shelf-stable cartons for an SRP of $4.99 and begin shipping to retailers next month.

Shifting its functionality into a smaller size, Detoxwater is set to launch a 1.7 oz. aloe supplement called Veralixir. The highly concentrated dose of aloe vera extract delivers the equivalent of drinking three bottles of Detoxwater, and contains zero calories and no sugar. Beginning on September 15, the product will be available exclusively on the brand’s e-commerce platform for 90 days prior to launching at retail.

Plant-based protein line Koia will unveil its new Fruit Infusions line, which features 18g of plant protein and 6g of sugar in Chocolate Banana, Strawberry Crème and Mango Crème flavors. The new products will be available at Wegmans, Giant Eagle, Fresh Thyme, Earth Fare and other retailers for a suggested retail price of $3.99 per 12 oz. bottle.

After showcasing cold brew coffees made with dairy at Expo West in March, Chameleon Cold-Brew is adding more milk-added products to its portfolio with the launch of a three-SKU line of Cold-Brew Lattes. The new products, which are made with frothed organic milk and organic cane sugar, range from 90 to 100 calories per 6.2 oz. slim can (SRP $2.99), depending on variety. The line is available in Original, Mexican and Pecan flavors.
