GLENDALE, Wis. – Sharad Chadha, CEO of Sprecher Brewing Company, announced today the company has acquired a minority stake in O2 Hydration.
“This is another exciting step for Sprecher in our overall growth strategy,” Chadha said. “Our January acquisition of Juvee allowed us to enter the energy drink category, and now we’re diversifying even more in the better-for-you sports drink market with this minority stake in O2 Hydration.”
O2 CEO Dave Colina launched the first-of-its-kind oxygenated sports drink in Columbus, Ohio, with co-founder Dr. Dan Kim in 2014.
Colina said, “We’re proud of our history as a healthier alternative to big-sugar brands like Gatorade and meme drinks like Prime. We welcome our new partnership with Sprecher, and we can’t wait to introduce O2 to a global audience thirsty for a change.”
O2 is the first sports drink produced in recyclable aluminum cans rather than single-use plastic, and it is certified 100% carbon neutral, Non-GMO Project Verified, and has only 1g of total sugar with nothing artificial.
As part of the acquisition, Milwaukee-based Sprecher will begin producing and distributing O2 Hydration worldwide, which will join a growing family of products that range from better-for-you offerings to Sprecher’s own world-famous, award-winning fire-brewed root beer.
Sprecher sales are up more than 300 percent since 2020 as Chadha continues working to expand the portfolio, with help from more than 160+ employees at its Glendale headquarters, north of Milwaukee, WI.
