Ola Sol — the first premium agave wine designed for crafting cocktails — is meeting the rising demand for agave-based and lower-ABV beverages. With a tequila-like flavor and a lower alcohol content (24% ABV), Ola Sol bridges the gap between full-proof agave spirits and wine-based alternatives, offering a new option for imbibers at home and establishments restricted to beer and wine licenses.
“There are more than 25,000 beer and wine licenses in California alone, most held by mom-and-pop establishments trying to get back on their feet,” says Alexis Beechen, co-founder and CEO of Ola Sol. “Ola Sol gives them the ability to serve cocktails, which is often the most profitable part of a menu. It’s a game changer for them.”
Ola Sol was founded by Miles Beckett and Steve Seigel, two seasoned tech entrepreneurs who, as millennials and parents, recognized the need for a low-alcohol tequila alternative that allowed people to enjoy agave cocktails without headaches or hangovers. Inspired by the potential of agave wine, they worked to refine it until it achieved the clear appearance and smooth, unmistakable flavor of an agave spirit – with half the ABV. They soon partnered with Alexis Beechen – a full-stack marketing leader with experience developing the go-to-market strategies for both B2C and B2B brands, including one of the first nationally distributed canned wine brands – to launch Ola Sol in the U.S. in September 2024. It quickly gained traction with restaurants, bars, and retailers seeking a high-quality agave-based option that fits within beer and wine license regulations.
“We wanted to create a cleaner, smoother agave spirit alternative for everyday drinking,” says Beechen. "Ola Sol is lighter in alcohol but doesn't compromise on flavor, making it perfect for when you want to enjoy a cocktail without the weight of full-proof spirits."
Ola Sol is hand-crafted using time-honored techniques akin to tequila production, retaining the agave’s full character without undergoing distillation. Ola Sol is made from 100% single estate-grown Blue Weber agave, harvested in Jalisco, Mexico. The agave is harvested by hand and cooked in an autoclave before it is juiced and fermented for 72 hours in stainless steel barrels. The resulting agave wine is then filtered until it is completely clear and fortified with 10% agave brandy, adding another layer of complexity while keeping its classification as wine. The result is a smooth, low-alcohol tequila alternative that shines in classic cocktails like margaritas, palomas, and ranch waters. Ola Sol is also gluten-free, additive-free, non-GMO, vegan, and has no added sugars, meaning it's perfectly situated to capture the attention of consumers shifting towards mindful consumption and healthier lifestyle choices.
“The response to Ola Sol has been incredible,” says co-founder and CEO Alexis Beechen. “We’re seeing strong momentum in bars and restaurants because we sit at the intersection of two booming categories—agave-based beverages and low-alcohol drinks.”
