Derek Trucks Announces Ass Pocket Whiskey Release No. 3: A Brotherly Release

May 5th, 2025 (Jacksonville, FL) – Grammy-winning guitarist Derek Trucks and Ass Pocket Whiskey (APW) today unveil APW No. 3: A Brotherly Release, a dual drop of Kentucky Straight Bourbons that started the same but matured differently. 

The release made its public debut over the weekend at Sun, Sand & Soul Beach Weekend, where Tedeschi Trucks Band headlined two nights and Derek Trucks took the stage with whiskey expert Fred Minnick for a special tasting and live conversation about the release.

Like Derek and his brother David Trucks, these two bourbons shared the same parents (distillery) and DNA (mashbill) - distilled from a grain bill of 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley. But from there, their paths split. Derek added, “Like brothers, they came from the same place but their different life experiences resulted in their unique character. That’s what makes these bottles so fun to drink, especially side by side.” 

APW No. 3A: 15-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon

Aged 15 years in deep-charred #4 oak barrels, this bourbon was shaped by Kentucky’s intense seasonal shifts. After multiple rounds of tasting, the Trucks brothers selected 107 proof (53.5% ABV) as the perfect expression of this rich, balanced bourbon.

APW No. 3B: 9-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon

This bourbon took the road less traveled. After four years in its initial home, this bourbon moved to the ground floor of the longest rickhouses of its kind. The cooler, more humid conditions slowed the aging process and naturally reduced the proof, resulting in one of the lowest barrel-strength whiskeys in recent memory - 97.5 proof (48.75% ABV) - with a smooth, full-bodied finish.

The first 500 orders of both bottles will ship in a limited-edition box set and include access to a private virtual tasting event with Derek and David this summer.
