Sauvage Distillery, the award-winning New York State craft spirits producer, unveils Upstate Vodka Black Oxford: a limited-edition expression distilled exclusively from the rare heirloom Black Oxford purple apple. With only 32 bottles available, Upstate Vodka Black Oxford exemplifies Sauvage’s pioneering innovation in luxury apple spirits production.
First discovered in Maine around 1790, the Black Oxford apple is revered for its deep purple hue, dense texture, and complex flavor. It remains one of the rarest heirloom apple varieties. Harnessing this rarity requires deep expertise, hallmarks of Sauvage Distillery. Each bottle is crafted from approximately 75 hand-selected Black Oxford apples. Distilled by Head Distiller, Jamie Terk, this micro-batch captures the apple’s layered orchard complexity with a refinement that only true mastery of apple-based distilling can deliver.
“This was an extraordinary opportunity to marry our expertise in apple distilling with a fruit of remarkable heritage; every step of production honors its legacy. The micro-batch spirit offers layers of ripe orchard fruit and florals unfolding into soft notes of honeyed grain. It is incredibly unique for a vodka: a testament to what can be achieved when rarity meets relentless craftsmanship," comments Terk.
To reflect its refinement, Upstate Vodka Black Oxford is housed in a handcrafted wooden box with a deep purple hue. Rich detailing (engraved gold lettering, brass hardware and a black satin lining) frame the bottle as a true collector’s piece.
“At Sauvage innovation is born from respect for heritage,” says Ilio Mavlyanov, CEO & Founder of Sauvage Distillery. “Reimagining the Black Oxford apple through our distilling craftsmanship allowed us to create a groundbreaking spirit."
Upstate Vodka Black Oxford (40% ABV | SRP: $500 / 750ml) is a rare release (32 bottles). Most bottles will be available via private auction and a small number available on the distillery's website.
