The Madeira Wine Institute (IVBAM – Instituto do Vinho, do Bordado e do Artesanato da Madeira), together with Madeira wine producers and wineries, proudly announces the 2025 Madeira Wine Experience New York, taking place on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Ideal Glass Studio (9 West 8th Street, New York, NY).

The event invites both trade and media (12:00–4:00 PM) and the general public (5:30–8:30 PM) to explore the captivating world of Madeira, Portugal's legendary fortified wine. Guests will experience a day of tasting, learning, and celebration dedicated to the island's remarkable winemaking heritage.

A Celebration of Madeira Wine

The Madeira Wine Experience offers an unparalleled opportunity to discover the diversity and complexity of Madeira — a fortified wine celebrated for its extraordinary longevity, balance, and spectrum of styles from dry to sweet. Whether enjoyed on its own, paired with food, or mixed into cocktails, Madeira captivates with its vibrant acidity and layered aromas.

Trade & Media Program (12:00–4:00 PM)

Credentialed members of the wine trade and media are invited to attend two in-depth seminars led by sommelier and Wines of Portugal brand ambassador Eugénio Jardim, followed by a walk-around tasting featuring a selection of exceptional wines from six distinguished Madeira producers.

11:00–11:45 AM – Seminar 1: "Madeira — Terroir, Tradition, and Elegance"

Explore how volcanic soils, Atlantic influences, and centuries-old fortification methods shape Madeira's unique character. Taste selections aged 25–35 years and experience the wine's remarkable aging potential. Tasting Selections include:

  • 2017 Vinhos Barbeito Vinha da Laje Sercial
  • 1995 Pereira D'Oliveira Tinta Negra
  • 2013 Cossart Gordon Bual
  • 2000 H&H Boal Single Harvest
  • 1999 Broadbent Madeira Colheita
  • 2010 Blandy's Colheita Malmsey

12:00–12:45 PM – Seminar 2: "Flavors in Balance — The Versatility of Madeira Wine"

Discover how Madeira bridges historical legacy with contemporary cuisine. Enjoy six styles of Madeira paired with dishes showcasing the wine's exceptional versatility. Tasting Selections include:

  • Cossart Gordon Verdelho 10 YO
  • Vinhos Barbeito Savannah Verdelho Special Reserve
  • Blandy's 10 YO Sercial
  • Pereira D'Oliveira 1990 Sercial
  • H&H Boal 15 YO
  • Justino's Madeira Malvasia 10 YO

12:00–4:00 PM – Walk-Around Tasting

Sample a wide range of Madeira wines — from dry to sweet — presented by six iconic producers. Participating Producers include:

  • Justino's Madeira Wines / Broadbent Selections, Inc.
  • Madeira Wine Company / Premium Port Wines
  • Madeira Wine Company / Vineyard Brands
  • Henriques & Henriques / Haus Alpenz - Sotolon Selections USA
  • Pereira D'Oliveira (Vinhos) / The Rare Wine Co.
  • Vinhos Barbeito (Madeira) / The Rare Wine Co.

Public Session (5:30–8:30 PM)

The evening public session invites wine lovers to experience Madeira through a walk-around tasting featuring curated wines, small bites, and six creative Madeira cocktails crafted by New York mixologists. Guests will be invited to vote for their favorite cocktail of the evening.

6:00pm - 6:45pm: Madeira Cocktails Made Easy

Discover how Madeira, Portugal's iconic fortified wine, elevates any cocktail. With its long shelf life and distinctive flavor, Madeira is the perfect addition to any home bar. Join bartender Francesco Dionese for a fun, hands-on session and learn how simple it is to shake, stir, and sip your way through Madeira-inspired cocktails. Seating is limited.

Mini-Tasting Series with Eugénio Jardim:

  • 7:15–7:30 PM – Madeira Wine Varieties
  • 7:30–7:45 PM – Madeira's Different Levels of Sweetness
  • 7:45–8:00 PM – Madeira: 10 Years Old Face-Off

Consumer Tickets: $55

About Madeira Wine

Madeira Wine is a fortified wine from the Portuguese island of Madeira, renowned for its resilience, complexity, and broad range of styles — from dry and fresh to rich and sweet. The DOP Madeira region spans approximately 1,235 acres of steep, volcanic terrain influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. The island's unique climate and winemaking methods produce wines of exceptional structure and longevity.

Madeira is traditionally produced from five main grape varieties — Sercial, Verdelho, Boal, Malvasia, and Tinta Negra — each defining a distinctive level of sweetness and style. Wines may be labeled as Colheita (vintage, minimum five years of aging), Frasqueira/Garrafeira (vintage, minimum twenty years in cask), or by Indication of Age (5, 10, 15, 20 years, etc.).

Dry styles are typically served chilled as aperitifs, while sweeter styles are enjoyed after dinner or paired with desserts — and all are celebrated for their remarkable aging potential.
