Somerston Estate Unveils New Wines and a Refreshed Look for Its Flagship Luxury Collection
PRESS RELEASE posted by Somerston Estate
Two limited-production wines mark a new chapter for the private Napa Valley estate
NAPA VALLEY, Calif. (October 6, 2026) — Somerston Estate, a historic 1,682-acre private estate tucked into Napa Valley’s eastern Vaca Mountains, announces the next chapter of Somerston: a new flagship collection representing the most focused expression of its mountain vineyards. The collection includes two limited-production wines—a white and a red—that showcase the remarkable depth and distinctive character of this unique site above St. Helena.
At the center of Somerston’s new identity is the Astrolabe, one of the world’s earliest navigational instruments, featured prominently in gold embossing on the new bottles. Historically used by explorers to chart their course, the Astrolabe reflects Somerston’s own ethos: to explore deeply, navigate with intention, and continually deepen its understanding of the land.
The inaugural Somerston flagship wines introduce two distinct expressions crafted from top estate blocks. The collection debuts today with the release of the 2023 Somerston Red ($245; 190 cases produced), to be followed by the 2025 Somerston White ($75; 200 cases produced) arriving in late fall 2026. Rather than adhering to a fixed formula, each release is a thoughtfully selected proprietary blend showcasing the winemaker’s artistry and the estate’s distinctive mountain terroir.
The Somerston Estate is planted to 230 acres of sustainably farmed vineyards that range from 850 to 1,615 feet in elevation. The variety of soil types, sun exposures, and microclimates creates distinct growing environments across the property. Individual blocks are farmed, harvested, and vinified with attention to their particular conditions, allowing the character of each site to guide the final wines.
Leading this new chapter is Director of Winemaking, Cody Hurd, whose understanding of the property has been built over more than 15 years at Somerston. Since joining the estate in 2010, Hurd has worked across nearly every aspect of its winemaking operations, progressing from cellar master to head winemaker. His experience across the property and its individual vineyard blocks informs the highly selective approach behind the flagship wines.
“After more than 15 years of working at Somerston, I’ve had the opportunity to understand this property block by block and vintage by vintage. These wines are the result of that deep familiarity with the land—selecting the fruit that most clearly expresses what makes Somerston unique in a given year and allowing those sites to guide the winemaking. The goal is not simply to make exceptional wines, but to create wines that could only come from this place,” said Cody Hurd, Director of Winemaking at Somerston Estate.
In addition to its new flagship wines, Somerston is inviting guests to experience the estate through a new culinary program designed to bring its wine, food, and sense of place to life. Led by Estate Chef Cameron Bouldin, the experience showcases Napa Valley’s seasonal ingredients through innovative pairings that complement the wines while offering a deeper connection to Somerston’s dramatic mountain landscape.
The 2023 Somerston Red is available in limited quantities directly through Somerston Estate beginning October 6, 2026, with the 2025 Somerston White to follow in late fall 2026. Private estate experiences are available by reservation at somerstonestate.com.
