Review: Bizz Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate
Covers Products: Bizzy Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate
Bizzy Coffee is a St. Paul, Minn.-based startup focused on the cold brew coffee category. Their initial offering comes in the form of a shelf-stable concentrate, which is USDA Organic certified and contains no calories or sugar.
So how does it taste? Using a blend of 100 percent Arabica coffee sourced from Central and South America, Bizzy is bold and full-bodied, but smooth in its finish, with enjoyable notes of fruit and vanilla. Here’s an issue, though: to us, it doesn’t really taste any better or worse than many of the other high-quality cold-brew products that are currently on the market. This leaves a big risk for the product in terms of being viewed as something that’s simply a commodity.
Packaging is a 16 oz. plastic bottle that was designed to make six servings. The product’s key point of differentiation is that it is being sold through an e-commerce platform, shipping in a 4-pack for $37.99. The design of the bottle is clean in terms of how the label is arranged and the label copy is intuitive to the point where there’s no mistaking what it is.
All of this leaves us feeling as though Bizzy needs to do more to differentiate -- aside from its route to the consumer, it doesn’t stand out or feel any more credible than its competition. What they’ve created is definitely palatable and it looks nice, but it’s not clear why the market needs this product with the plethora of other products that are out there. Maybe the answer is something in the process or behind the scenes, but it doesn’t come through with what we had in hand.Note: Like all cold-brew concentrates on the market today, the result that is achieved when diluting the product ultimately depends on the ratio of water to concentrate that’s used. So, we always make sure to taste these products straight as well.
