Karma Wellness Water

Karma Wellness Water

Manufacturer's Brand Overview [Edit]

Karma Wellness Water is a truly enlightened product, born out of the idea that what goes around comes around. A product based on the simple belief that if you do something positive—for others, or for yourself—you’ll get something positive back in return. When you think about it, it just makes sense: make good choices, and you’ll see and feel the benefits. Like choosing a drink that transforms pristine spring water into wellness water, creating positive effects for your mind, body, spirit, balance, and vitality. That’s Karma. And Karma Wellness Water was made possible thanks to a choice we made. Vitamins deteriorate in water, so premixed vitamin drinks can lose their strength over time. But because we chose to keep Karma’s ingredients in a patented KarmaCap until you’re ready to mix them, you’re able to enjoy all their benefits at maximum potency.

Raspberry Guava Jackfruit

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 18 oz PET
BevNET Review: Raspberry Guava Jackfruit was our favorite flavor of the initial Karma lineup. The reason is that the fruit flavoring masks almost all of the functional ingredients to the point where they do not add more than a slight note at the drink’s finish. Otherwise, the fruit flavor is quite pleasant, with a taste that’s tart and tangy. “Raspberry guava jackfruit” flavoring tastes very much like pomegranate flavoring, so it will be fairly familiar to most consumers. Nutritionally, there’s a lot of good stuff in this drink, including loads of vitamin A, D and B vitamins as well as glucosamine, pantothenic acid, and calcium. These nutrients (as well as the flavoring and coloring) are held in the cap until consumption, which is designed to keep them fresh (rather than deteriorating as they sit in the liquid while the bottle is on the store shelf). As far as cap dispensers go, this one is extremely easy to use -- just push and shake. Otherwise, the bottle is larger than competing products at 18 oz. and the cap is also noticeably bigger than other brands. This certainly could help the perceived value of Karma, and they’ve also made the front panel look rather clean. If anything, we’d like to see the word “body” incorporated better with the flavor call out. As it stands right, it’s very easy to overlook. Overall, an enjoyable product and the best of the Karma line.Reviewed on: 10/18/2011

Pineapple Coconut

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 18 oz PET
BevNET Review: Billed as the “Vitality” formulation, this variety contains caffeine (from green tea) and resveratrol for its supposed anti-aging benefits. It also contains a host of vitamins (A, D, E, and B vitamins), all of which are at 110 percent RDA and dispensed from the cap to keep them from deteriorating while the product is on the shelf. From a flavor perspective, the pineapple and coconut flavors start out providing an enjoyable flavor, but they quickly dissipate, leaving the flavor of the vitamins and stevia behind. If they could make the flavor stick around longer, then the drink would be more enjoyable. Packaging is, like the other Karma flavors, a large 18 oz. bottle which gives it a nice point of differentiation. They’ve done a nice job of making the front panel look visually clean, especially when the product has not been opened and the liquid is still clear. Overall, we like this flavor, but we’d like it more if they flavor stuck around more.Reviewed on: 10/18/2011

Passionfruit Green Tea

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 18 oz PET
BevNET Review: This variety of Karma is the most unique tasting of the bunch, which is directly due to the product’s grassy green tea flavor. It also has less sweetness and a lighter mouthfeel, which is something else that’s a nice change of pace. Otherwise, the green tea flavor does a nice job of masking the nutrients, especially when the note of passionfruit flavoring hits your palate at the finish. Functionally, this formulation contains 110 percent RDA of vitamin A, D, E, and various B vitamins. It also contains ginseng, yerba mate, L-theanine, grape seed extract, acai extract, and pomegranate extract. All of these ingredients, along with the flavor and coloring, are dispensed from an easy to use cap dispenser (all you have to do is push it down and shake the bottle). We’re not quite sure why they labeled this the “Spirit” formulation -- and we’re not convinced that such sub-branding is even needed as the rest of the labeling seems like it can hold its own. We think that they’ve done a nice job creating a brand that looks healthy and appealing. Overall, an enjoyable product that uses a flavor combination that is unique as far as mix to drink products go.Reviewed on: 10/18/2011

Acai Pomberry

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 18 oz PET
BevNET Review: The latest entry into the cap dispensed enhanced water category (if such a thing exists) is Karma Wellness Water, an “acai pomberry” flavored product. The 18 oz. bottle starts out with a rather simple look, which is largely due to the plain spring water inside the bottle. The cap is where all of the flavor and functionality lies and, compared with other cap technologies that we’ve tried, this one is fairly simple: just press the top. This releases the blue colored powder, which keeps all of the nutrients in tact until the time of consumption (otherwise, they’d deteriorate in the water). After a light amount of shaking to mix the drink, all you have to do is remove the cap and drink away. The liquid, which turns a murky blue color, tastes like a blue raspberry flavored enhanced water, which should be a familiar flavor for more people. The drink is primarily sweetened with stevia, but it also has a touch of sugar. All in all, it definitely tastes like a diet drink, but it still manages to have ample sweetness. Functionally, the product has loads of vitamin C (1,000mg) , E, D, A, and B vitamins as well as added tea polyphenols, acai extract, cranberry extract, and pomegranate extract. Since they are trying to position this as “wellness water,” the formulation seems to make sense in that they have all of the basic vitamins covered. However, from a positioning point of view, “wellness” and “balance” (also mentioned on the front panel) are rather vague and conceptual relative to other functions like energy, relaxation, or hydration. Plus, there’s something about murky blue colored liquid and the words “wellness” and “fresh” that seem out of sync to us. Eliminating the blue color would certainly help remedy this. Overall, it’s a good start and we really like the cap dispenser that they’ve chosen, but cleaner label design (the front panel is fine, but the sides and back are very busy) and some other flavors would make us like it more.
