Review: Bolivia Black Cherry
(Last Updated: Nov 18, 2014 at 10:11 AM)For the Bai5 Bubbles line, we figured that starting with the most soda-like flavor would help give us a sense of where this brand stands. If you’ve ever had diet black cherry soda, you can certainly use it as a starting reference point. Usually, it’s one of those flavors that starts out with a nice cherry aroma and flavor, but ultimately ends up dry and full of sweetener aftertaste. Not so for this product. What you have here is a very impressive five-calorie (per 11.5 oz. can) formulation that’s much closer to a sugar-sweetened product than one that’s anywhere close to this product in terms of calories. The product doesn’t actually use added sugar, instead opting for erythritol and stevia. The flavor is tart and full bodied, bursting with cherry flavor from start to finish. We really can’t say a bad thing about the way that it tastes. Packaging is a 11.5 oz. slim can, which Bai has decorated with a white backdrop and an adaptation of the same branding scheme that you’ll find on their bottled product. Describing it as a “sparkling antioxidant infusion” is a bit of a mouthful, especially at first glance, and, if nothing else, it can definitely make one question if this is going to taste good or not. Still, we appreciate that the functional aspect of this product has largely been relegated to the back panel. We’ll definitely give the company credit for creating a product that is clean and well-executed from a design perspective. Overall, we really like what Bai5 has done with this product. It’s our favorite variety of the set.
