BevNET Review

While ginger ale isn’t the most popular CSD flavor, Dr Pepper decided to give its Canada Dry flavor the “Ten” treatment anyway. Oddly enough -- or maybe it’s just the fact that diet ginger ale doesn’t usually taste that great -- Canada Dry Ten is one of the better tasting flavors to grace the Ten lineup. The flavor is light, but sweet, with the classic Canada Dry Ginger Ale flavor coming through in an almost perfect translation. This seems to be the result of the touch of sweetness from the high fructose corn syrup blending with the spice of the ginger flavoring to mask the aspartame and ace-k sweeteners. As a result, the product succeeds in delivering flavor that’s pretty close to what you’d find in a full calorie product. Of course, the product is part of the “Ten” line, so it clocks in at 10 calories per 8 ounces (or 20 calories per bottle -- you can thank the FDA’s rounding rules for that). On the packaging front, it’s definitely not the most inspired looking design, with a rectangular “TEN” call out on top of what is otherwise a standard looking Canada Dry bottle. Still, it fits with the theme and isn’t overly disruptive to the product’s appearance. Overall, this product isn’t the best low calorie soda that we’ve ever had, but it’s definitely one of the better varieties in the Ten line.
