BevNET Review
Of the two varieties from Captain’s Neck & Co., this one, Citrus Mint, is the superior of the two in almost every aspect. For starters, the flavor is much more accurate and complete. It starts out with the tart flavors of lemon and lime (the product contains 17 percent juice), followed by sweetness from the added sugar and stevia, and is finally rounded out with a hint of mint. Like its counterpart, this formulation is 40 calories, which seems like a good mid-calorie place to be (it’s still not that far from zero). However, the stevia works so much better with the lemon and lime than it does with the grape and ginger in the other variety. We’d say the same about the functionality of the label. From a technical perspective, it uses the same 12 oz. glass bottle and paper label as the Grape and Ginger flavor. But thanks to the use of a better color scheme, your eye can quickly and easily spot the flavor name (although we’d call it “Lemon, Lime, Mint” instead of the more vague “Citrus Mint”). We do, however, still feel as though things could be reorganized or removed based on their relative importance to the purchase decision. There are too many words at the top of the label and this definitely distracts from reading the flavor name and the calorie profile (both of which seem pretty important). All in all, we like this variety and, although it still has room to improve, feel as though it’s much closer to the mark than its counterpart.
