Review: Dark Cacao

While chocolate-flavored coconut water is certainly not a new thing, Harmless Harvest’s approach brings an innovative twist to the concept. The product, which, like Harmless Harvest’s flagship coconut water is high pressure processed and promoted as "raw," contains only two ingredients: organic coconut water and organic cacao extract. The resulting product has an extremely enjoyable flavor. And it’s very straightforward, with the cacao adding a mellow chocolate flavor that is sweetened by the sugar that is naturally found in the coconut water. The simplicity of the formulation is what makes the product so superb -- especially since Harmless Harvest balanced the flavors to the point of perfection. For a company that has been all about delivering products that are “Harmless,” this seems like the right way for company to approach a flavor extension like this. Visually, the company has stuck with the same format that it has for its flagship product, but the green accent color has been exchanged for brown. This approach works quite nicely, making it very obvious that it’s a different flavor without having to add in images of cacao. Plus, it maintains the minimalist look of the original, which is certainly a plus. Overall, we really like this product -- it’s both a solid line extension and one of the best tasting flavored coconut water products that we’ve ever had.
