Review: Pineapple Peach

(Last Updated: Dec 05, 2014 at 12:10 PM)
Pineapple and peach are two flavors that aren't too common when it comes to kombucha, and mixing them together is definitely something unique. That’s also a good way to describe the flavor of this particular variety. Pineapple Peach, which is sweetened with stevia and evaporated cane juice (as part of making the kombucha), starts out tasting quite pleasant with a moderately effervescent and slightly vinegary base of kombucha. This is also where you can briefly taste the sugar, but it quickly gives way to the peach and pineapple flavors. Our issue with these two flavors is that they taste more like flavorings than the actual fruit (there is pineapple juice, but no peach). While they aren’t bad flavors, it does take away from the overall enjoyment of the product. We’d say the same about the stevia, which, at different points in tasting the product, you can definitely taste. Fine tuning the formulation to improve both of these issues would be an improvement. But we do appreciate KeVita's desire to craft a low-calorie offering (the beverage contains 20 calories per serving) in a space where there hasn’t been one to date. From an appearance perspective, we really like what the company has done. It’s a nice iteration of the KeVita brand, and the label definitely is up there with the best of them when it comes to the kombucha category. Overall, there’s some improvements to be had when it comes to the product’s flavor, but KeVita definitely put its best foot forward when it comes to the design of the packaging.
