The Strawberry Banana Flavor of Lettuce Tea is a sugar sweetened tea (green and black teas) beverage that is enhanced with lettuce extract and “lettuce vitamin derivative.” While it fortunately does not actually taste like lettuce, the product doesn’t taste like tea, either. Instead, the product tastes like a strawberry banana juice cocktail -- and one that doesn’t use juice for flavoring. Unfortunately, that leaves us disagreeing with the “superior taste” badge that’s on the side of the product. The other and perhaps larger issue for this product is its packaging and positioning. The label is both lackluster from a design point of view (it’s hard to read and almost looks like a parody product), while the label is loaded with technical copy that’s simply impossible for any consumer to make sense of (“nutritionated distinctively”, for example). Realistically, this product seems flawed in both concept and execution to the point where we find it hard to imagine any meaningful consumer base becoming a loyal user of this product. We suggest that Lettuce Tea take this product back to the drawing board and figure out a different approach.
