BevNET Review
The Coffee variety of Rebel Kitchen’s coconut milk line is, at least in terms of the ingredients used to formulate it, not all that much different than its chocolate counterpart. It features a USDA Organic certified blend of water, coconut milk, date nectar and coffee, which is certainly a straightforward list of ingredients. The flavor of the product is heavy on the coconut milk, with a fair amount of sweetness from the added date nectar. The coffee is a secondary flavor, which is certainly fine considering that this product is first and foremost a “mylk” drink. Much like the Chocolate variety, this one has a slight tang to it from the coconut milk, which we think will probably be a bit of an acquired taste for new consumers. The coffee flavor, unlike the chocolate, seems to reduce this just a bit, but we still wish that Rebel Kitchen would smooth this out a bit more. Lastly, we wonder if another flavor -- perhaps vanilla -- would be a better fit than this one (or a good line extension). Packaging is an 11 oz. Tetra Pak carton with a “DreamCap” screw top. The choice of packaging feels like a good one, and we’re fond of the branding that the company created for it (Rebel Kitchen feels like a nice platform to do a lot of different things). However, we do think that the text on the front of the package could be simplified or rearranged a bit to improve readability. This would also put more visual emphasis on the Rebel Kitchen branding, which certainly couldn’t hurt.
