Review: Green Venom

The Green Venom flavor of Roar is the company's take on the classic lemon-lime sports drink. The biggest differences between this product and one of big sports drink brands is its inclusion of coconut water and the addition of B vitamins. Also, the product has a slightly lighter mouthfeel than competing brands, which is probably a place where the coconut water helps out. Otherwise, it very much tastes like a standard lemon-lime sports drink. Perhaps the only thing that we don’t like is the addition of coloring. It’s a fully wrapped bottle, so you can’t even see the color of the liquid thus making added coloring unnecessary. Otherwise, it’s a very enjoyable and gulpable product. Nutritionally, the product has 100 calories (per bottle), 22g of sugar (per bottle), electrolytes, and B vitamins. Packaging is a fully wrapped 16 ounce PET bottle. Although minor, there were some technical issues with the bottles that we received, including insufficient perforations around the cap (it was very hard to open), a small, difficult to read nutrition and ingredients label (which goes over one of the bottle’s indents), and uneven application of the label around the bottom (the graphics were slightly skewed). Otherwise, we very much like the design of the Roar brand and the top half of the bottle. The lower half, which looks almost like graffiti, feels somewhat messy and at odds at the top. And calling it “Green Venom,” which sounds like something more suitable for an energy drink, hurts, rather than helps, the credibility of the product in our opinion. Still, at the core of the product we think they’ve got something which, with some refinement, could certainly have potential.
