Review: Mango Tango

Shaktea Kombucha’s Mango Tango is a blend of organic raw kombucha and mango puree (which is made with kesar mango, sugar, water, and citric acid). From a taste perspective the product is quite enjoyable with the kombucha and mango flavors being mellow rather than assertive. The kombucha base is smooth rather than vinegary, which is definitely a plus. From there, the added mango puree gives it a nice tropical finish. With only 9 grams of sugar per 8 oz. serving, this stuff is definitely on the lighter side. In fact, it’s probably closer to a lightly flavored tea or sparkling juice than what you’ll typically find from a bottle of kombucha. That’s not a bad thing -- we’re definitely okay with this as a point of differentiation. On the packaging front, the choice of a clear 12 oz. is one that a couple of kombucha companies have tried to give the product a more craft soda-like appearance. If that’s what the company is going for, it’s certainly effective. The look of the product feels less serious than an amber bottle and the color of the liquid is appealing to the senses. The design of the label, which we’d describe as whimsical, catches the eye but doesn’t do a great job of promoting the brand name. Shaktea is in small letters, while the word kombucha is really the focal point. Rotating this text would certainly be helpful as would making the Shaktea logo larger. Overall, this was an enjoyable kombucha, but we feel as though making the brand more prominent would be a smart move.
