BevNET Review

The current lineup of Shaktea Kombucha has three ginger flavors: Ginger Ale, Ginger Blush, and Ginger Blues. From our perspective, this seems like a bit too much of a good thing. For as much as we like the notion of ginger and kombucha, it gives the consumer too many similar choices. In the case of Ginger Blues, the product starts out with the same base of organic raw kombucha as the other flavors (it makes up 96 percent of the blend according to the label). The only other added ingredients are organic blueberry puree and fresh pressed organic ginger juice. Like the other ginger flavors of Shaktea, this one has a very nice spice to it and only the slightest note of kombucha (you can, however, identify it as a tea-based product). However, the added blueberry really only makes for the most subtle of variation from Ginger Blush, which uses raspberry in place of blueberry. Ultimately, we think that the company should just pick one of the flavors (we’d go with this one) and perhaps create a citrus flavor of some sort to take its place. Contrary to what we said in the review of Shaktea Ginger Ale, the label styling of this particular flavor seems a bit more in line with what’s inside the bottle (although we’d still like to see more kombucha flavor). Overall, we like the flavor of the product, although it wasn’t exactly what we expected from a product billing itself as organic raw kombucha.
