Maple sap is derived solely from the Northeastern United States and Canada. During the spring season, maple trees essentially become micronized and organic, water-filtering devices. The water is taken in by the tree, thereby producing maple sap, which is comprised of 3% maple sugar and 97% water.
During the method of processing maple sap into maple syrup, the pure tree water is removed to obtain the all-popular maple sugar, and the water component of the sap is discarded. Up until now, this 500,000,000 gallon per year natural water resource has been left, literally, untapped.
