Dunkin’ is doubling down on RTDs with a new, bigger format.
Pitched as “for life on the double,” Dunkin’ Double features the equivalent of two shots of espresso per 15 oz. can, or around 140 mg caffeine. Each can contains 180 calories and 30 grams of sugar, as well as dairy milk. Available in Original, Cafe Mocha and Salted Caramel, the line is launching today for $3.26 at retailers including Walmart, Kroger, Publix, QT and Amazon.
The line positions Dunkin‘ to compete with other 15 oz. RTD coffees, a space dominated by higher-caffeine options like Java Monster — which shares Coca-Cola as its distribution partner with Dunkin’ — and Starbucks Doubleshot Energy, distributed by PepsiCo. Other names in the space include Black Rifle Coffee and International Delight.
Dunkin’ recently made headlines when health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. slated the Massachusetts-based chain, along with Starbucks, for selling drinks that can have in excess of 100 grams of sugar per serving.
“We’re gonna ask Dunkin’ and Starbucks, show us the safety data that shows that it’s OK for a teenage girl to drink an iced coffee with 115 grams of sugar in it,” said Kennedy in February. “I don’t think they’re gonna be able to do it.”
