HAMBURG, Germany — Elephant Gin is launching its signature products into the US market in Q1 of 2018 (www.elephant-gin.com). Inspired by the traditional sundowner experience after a day out in the African bush, Elephant Gin is produced for wildlife adventurers and urban explorers alike. Handcrafted in Germany with the highest quality production standards, each batch is distilled using fourteen botanicals, including rare African ingredients, to create its distinctive flavor profile.
The company also gives back to what inspired the gin in the first place. Elephant Gin contributes 15% of bottle proceeds to African elephant foundations in an effort to support the preservation of theAfrican wildlife and help ensure that future generations will be able to explore these magnificent landscapes.
Products:
All of Elephant Gin’s products are handcrafted; produced in small-batches of approximately 600 bottles and using the traditional method of copper still distillation in an Arnold Holstein still. The bottles are custom-made, adorned with handwritten labels, embossed with a crest and sealed with natural cork. Elephant London Dry Gin (45% ABV) Elephant London Dry Gin uses an innovative blend of 14 botanicals with rare African ingredients as well as fresh apples sourced from the orchards around the distillery. The unique African botanicals include the savannah’s “super fruit” Baobab, the extraordinary Buchu plant with a flavor similar to blackcurrant, and the African Wormwood introducing a sharp floral note among others. Locally sourced spring water enhances the purity and smoothness of the gin’s finish.
The gin’s distinct nose first yields a subtle juniper aroma, with an undertone of mountain pine and other herbaceous notes. The taste is complex but strikingly smooth, encompassing floral, fruity, and spicy flavors, which can be enjoyed both neat and in a cocktail. Each batch is named after past great tuskers or elephants that Elephant Gin’s partners currently help to protect.
Elephant Sloe Gin (35% ABV)
Since 2015, Elephant Gin has been releasing a strictly limited small batch edition of its sought-after handcrafted Elephant Sloe Gin. Combining the taste of the award-winning Elephant London Dry Gin with the classic flavor of fresh, hand picked sloes, these wild berries add a richly rounded, lightly sweet and exquisitely fruity bouquet, as well as a typical warm red color. Compared to other sloe gins, Elephant Sloe Gin has a relatively low sugar content, paired with a higher alcohol volume of 35 %. This makes it ideally suited for mixing in cocktails as well as enjoying neat. Half of all Elephant Sloe Gin 2018 bottles are adorned with beautiful beads, handmade by three Maasai tribe members from Kenya.
Elephant Strength Gin (57% ABV)
In 2017, Elephant Gin expanded its portfolio with the launch of an over proof Elephant Strength Gin – a variation on the award- winning Elephant London Dry Gin which is stronger and mightier than the original, amplifying the aroma and fragrance of the unique mixture of 14 botanicals, yet retaining the same smooth and balanced character that define London Dry Gins. The botanical focus is also specifically centered around juniper, orange peel, mountain pine and African buchu, with its blackcurrant- like flavor profile. The result is a more powerful nose and taste -without compromising the silky-smooth character that the Elephant London Dry Gin has become celebrated for.
About Elephant Gin
The founders were inspired to create Elephant Gin following their own adventures in Africa. They strongly believe that this generation has a responsibility to support the African wildlife today, so others can continue to enjoy it in the future. In 2013, they developed the award-winning Elephant London Dry Gin (45%) that uses rare African botanicals and focuses on resolutely artisan production methods. Since December 2015, the company has complemented its portfolio with an aromatic Elephant Sloe Gin(35%) and in March 2017 introduced a full-bodied Elephant Strength (57%). For each full-size bottle sold, 15% of profits are donated to Big Life Foundation and Space for Elephants, while with each miniature bottle, Elephant Gin contributes 15% of profits to The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. All of these organizations are devoted to the conservation of the African elephant.
About Elephant Conservation
Every year more than 35,000 elephants are shamelessly killed because of uncontrolled ivory poaching; that is one every 15 minutes. The company has made it a priority to contribute to the conservation and protection of these magnificent animals. To date, over €350,000 has been raised through both sales and fundraising events. As a result of these funds, an education center has been built in South Africa and 30 anti-poaching rangers in Kenya are currently supported from the proceeds.
Elephant Gin donates 15% of its profits to three inspirational African elephant foundations:
- Big Life Foundation is an anti-poaching organization, which protects two million acres of wilderness in the Amboseli-Tsavo ecosystem of East Africa (www.biglife.org). Elephant Gin’s contributions go toward one outpost to fund 35 rangers’ salaries, rations & equipment (e.g. tents, rucksacks, sleeping bags) for 3 months at a time.
- Space For Elephants is focused on restoring the old migratory routes that were lost when game reserves were fenced, and aims to give freedom to thousands of elephants to range freely across Africa (www.space4elephants.org). In addition, Elephant Gin has funded an education center that is due to open in Q4 2017.
- The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org) is known as the most successful orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world. Its elephant orphanage near Nairobi nurtures orphaned elephants who have been found in the wild – often either left behind when their mother dies due to poaching or other human intervention. Each baby elephant has the support of a dedicated team to nurse them back to strength and to rear them in such a way that they can return to the wild when grown. 15% of the profits from the miniature bottles will go to DSWT to support these initiatives.
