Santa Barbara, California – Clevr Blends – the Oprah-loved brand pioneering the better-for-you coffee category with delicious, easy-to-make functional lattes – is now available at select Whole Foods retail locations across the West Coast! That means you can now find your favorite SuperLatte flavors – Matcha, Chai, Coffee and Golden (in 8-serving bags for $17.99) – in 130+ Whole Foods Markets in the Pacific Coast.
Clevr's popularity has soared due to its creative, functional takes on coffee shop favorites inspired directly by the founders’ own mental health challenges. Hannah Mendoza and Roger Coppola bootstrapped their passion project launching the original Clevr Coffee Bar in 2016. The two designed upgraded takes on cafe-style drinks, like oat milk lattes and iced tea, infused with adaptogens, functional mushrooms, and better-than-barista ingredients.
On a mission to bring Clevr beyond the coffee shop and into peoples’ homes, the brand launched its line of instant SuperLattes in 2019. Since then, the brand has experienced rapid online DTC growth and is now testing the retail waters with a goal to learn more about consumer behavior and begin diversifying the revenue channel mix. Select Whole Foods West Coast locations will be offering the brand’s best-selling core latte flavors:
- Matcha SuperLatte: Made from shade-grown, stone-milled Japanese matcha, this earthy and buttery brain fuel is rich in antioxidants that help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals, and offers a nice energy boost without the midday caffeine crash.
- Chai SuperLatte: Embrace stress management and inner revitalization with this spiced seasonal favorite. Clevr's masala chai is crafted from naturally brewed and flash-dried Indian Black Tea, harmoniously blended with a selection of seven wholly organic, whole-ground spices sourced from a small, family-run business.
- Golden SuperLatte: Featuring organic cardamom, ginger, and Diaspora Co's fair trade, single-farm, heirloom varietal turmeric that provides anti-inflammatory benefits.
- Coffee SuperLatte: Experience the joys of your beloved oat milk latte with this blend boasting half the caffeine content per serving. Say goodbye to jitters and crashes with this organic, ethically-sourced Arabica coffee from a cooperative in Colombia.
Why Whole Foods? Whole Foods' values align perfectly with Clevr’s ethos and commitment to making natural, delicious products with strict quality standards accessible to all. Check out the store locator to find a Whole Foods location near you!
Is this new packaging? To support the brand’s growth into retail, Clevr’s packaging has also undergone a rebrand to reflect a new, more grown up Clevr (which you’ll also see rolled out on their DTC site in the coming months!). The new sophisticated look was made to stand out on retail shelves and captures the indulgent taste and texture the brand is known for. While the aesthetic has evolved, the brand’s high-quality, delicious blends remain unchanged.
ABOUT CLEVR
Inspired by their own exploration of incorporating adaptogens into their everyday, Clevr’s co-founders Hannah Mendoza and Roger Coppola traveled the California coast blending 10-ingredient adaptogenic coffees and lattes from their coffee cart. After hearing such positive and impactful feedback from their customers, they sought out a way to make these complex and delicious lattes more accessible. After a year of sourcing, formulating, and testing, Clevr Blends was born in 2019. Since launch, the brand has built a cult following of loyal customers (including Oprah and Meghan Markle) that wholeheartedly believe in the mission and efficacy of Clevr. Clevr also donates a percentage of revenue to organizations fighting for food justice, most recently co-creating a Food Systems Resiliency Fund alongside the Santa Barbara Food Action Network to support grassroots food justice efforts in Southern California.
