Oldest Whiskies from Award-Winning Islay Distillery Unveiled to Discerning American Connoisseurs

Islay, Scotland (October 16, 2024) – Bunnahabhain, the renowned Islay distillery, is proud to announce the highly anticipated release of its coveted 30-year-old and 40-year-old single malts in the United States. These exceptional whiskies, crafted in the remote reaches of the Hebrides and shaped by decades of maturation, bring a unique depth of flavor and sophistication that showcases Bunnahabhain’s commitment to producing some of the finest aged whiskies in the world.

Aged in sherry casks, the 30-year-old and 40-year-old expressions represent the pinnacle of Islay craftsmanship, reflecting the distillery’s unpeated style and signature coastal influences.

“Our 30- and 40-year-old whiskies are a tribute to Bunnahabhain’s dedication to quality and patience,” said Juliann Fernandez, master distiller at Bunnahabhain. “These releases have been nurtured with the utmost care, allowing the complex layers of flavor to develop over time. From the rich sherry notes to the coastal breeze woven into every drop, these whiskies invite true connoisseurs to experience the essence of Islay at its finest.”

Bunnahabhain 30 Year Whisky

(46.3% ALC/VOL, 92.6 Proof, 700 ML) - MSRP $999.99

The 30 Year Whisky was distilled in small batches and matured in 100% sherry casks. As the newest member of the Bunnahabhain core range family, this first batch release of a 30-year whisky is one of the distilleries' oldest single malts. This expression, a rich and sweet dram, was matured exclusively in ex-sherry casks in coastal warehouses at the distillery and is non-chill filtered, with a natural color.

Nose: Aromas of butterscotch, beeswax, and sweet sherry.

Palate: Strawberries and cream dominate the palate, gradually developing into honey nut cereals and an abundance of rich toffee.

Finish: A gentle aftertaste of stewed berries and ginger, with a prolonged and undulating combination of spiced oak and salted caramel.

Bunnahabhain 40 Year Whisky

(41.9% ALC/VOL, 83.8 Proof, 700 ML) - MSRP $3,785.99

Bunnahabhain’s 40 Year Whisky, a single-malt Scotch whisky, is a feast of tropical fruits, berries, and creamy toffee which blooms into sweet oak, vanilla, and toasted nuts. This unique and rare expression was matured for four decades in a warehouse by the sea in casks that were all but forgotten until Bunnahabhain’s blending team discovered them while reviewing the warehouse ledgers. Sourced from the legendary wines and spirits merchant J.G Turney, these casks have been home to this stunning whisky for the past forty years.

Nose: Hints of tropical fruits, banana, berries, creamy toffee, vanilla, rich nuttiness, and delicate sweet oak.

Palate: Sweet malt, creamy caramel, vanilla, creamy berries, with hints of toasted nuts, tropical fruit, banana, and pineapple.

Finish: Long, sweet, and fruity.

Crafted for the Whisky Connoisseur

With only an exclusive number of bottles available, both the 30- and 40-year-old releases are available at select U.S. retailers and are designed for collectors and whisky enthusiasts who seek the utmost refinement. These whiskies represent a journey through time, capturing the soul of Bunnahabhain’s distilling heritage and the natural beauty of Islay.

About Bunnahabhain

Established in 1881, Bunnahabhain is the most northerly of the Islay distilleries and one of the most remote. Bunnahabhain takes its name from the Scottish Gaelic word for ‘mouth of the river’ and refers to the Margadale River from whose clear spring waters the whisky is distilled. Focused on sustainability, Bunnahabhain has the first Net Zero distillation on Islay and is known for its unpeated whisky, due to the pure spring water piped to the distillery and the use of unpeated barley. The combination of sherry casks, which deliver complexity, richness, and sweetness, with the coastal influence of the sea makes its whisky very unique and highly complex.
