The IWSC’s first North American Whiskey & RTD Judging took place in Kentucky this year and the judges were not disappointed. For the first time, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious spirits competitions held a judging event in North America, and a small family-owned distillery came out on top. Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. Toasted Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey was the only Bourbon awarded an astounding 98 points and the ‘Outstanding Gold’ Award in the 2024 International Wine & Spirit Competition.
Producers awarded gold medals were then put forward to contest the overall trophy in their category. The IWSC trophies are awarded to the standout performers across a range of categories spanning different spirits, design and packaging. IWSC also awards trophies to the top producers from each region, as well as recognizes the people and businesses who have shone within their sector over the previous year. Another Kentucky Peerless Bourbon came out on top – their High Rye Bourbon was awarded the Bourbon Trophy 2024 making it the best bourbon in the world.
The judges described the High Rye Bourbon sipping experience: “The nose greets with classic, inviting aromas of animal hide and smoky campfire embers. On the palate, a harmonious blend of rich baking spices and luscious red fruits unfolds, while a subtly dry finish reveals hints of buttery marmalade on toast.”
This medal is in good company, as Kentucky Peerless has been racking up notable accolades recently. Their Toasted Bourbon - awarded an impressive 98 points by the IWSC - was the highest-ranking bourbon in the competition. They also took home Double Platinum in the 2024 Ascot Awards and Double Gold in the 2024 Sip Awards. Kentucky Peerless Owner and CEO was inducted into the Bourbon Hall of Fame this September. Kentucky Peerless was also awarded in the top 10 Best Craft Whiskeys and Best Craft Distillery Tours in USA Today’s 10Best Awards.
